EXCEL ACTIVITY 34

Revisiting the

Amusement Parks

1. Open a new Excel spreadsheet. Set to landscape format, put your name and Activity 34 as a footer, and click to include gridlines and headings.

2. Select the five amusement parks from Activity 33 that were the closest to the average cost. Set up the new spreadsheet similar to the one below. You can add borders, fill color, etc. to make the chart as pleasing as desired. Format Columns C and D for currency.

3. Google each amusement park on the Internet to determine as much as possible the number of rides at each. Fill in these numbers in Column B.

4. Column C information will come from Activity 33. Transfer the cost per adult daily entry into Column C for each park.

5. Click on cell D2. To figure the cost per ride, you will need to divide the cost per adult (Column C) by the number of rides in the park (Column B). Enter your formula into D2 and then Fill down through D6. Column D will now indicate the cost per ride for the park.

6. Column C is no longer necessary for the purpose of creating the graph. Click on the C at the top of the column, then go to Format-Column-Hide. Column C will disappear, but the information it contains is still valid and being read.

7. Creating the Chart. Highlight cells A2 through D6. Click on the chart icon and insert a Column Chart. At Step 2 of the Chart Wizard, click on Series. Under Series 1, Label “Number of Rides”. Under Series 2, Label “Cost Per Ride”. Continue on through the wizard, adding a title and labels for X and Y axis. The Series 2 part of the chart will not show up very much, so be sure to click “show value” under Data Labels.

8. Go to Print Preview to be sure your data and chart all fit on one sheet of paper. Save as Activity 34. You will need this information for the next activity, so be SURE TO SAVE IT! Submit using Edmodo or as directed by teacher.
