Add and Remove Rows, Columns and Cells

Before you begin...

Ensure that you have downloaded the data set. To do so, open your course homepage. Click on the link: Click here to download the dataset for this course. Save the dataset to the C: / drive on your computer.

In this exercise, you will insert and delete rows, as well as insert cells into the worksheet.

1. Open EX03-D07-SafetyTraining from your course dataset. 2. On the Chemicals worksheet, use the Ctrl key to select rows 15 and 24.

The rows in which there are no objectives listed are now selected. 3. With both rows still selected, right-click row 24 and choose Delete.

The data below a deleted row moves up.

Add Another Row to the Sheet 4. Select row 6. When you choose to insert a row, the new row will be placed above the row you have selected. 5. Click the Insert button (not the menu button) and enter the text shown in the appropriate cells.

Insert Cells into the Worksheet To merge and center the contents of cell A1 over the entire worksheet, you need to "bump" everything in columns C through F down one row.

6. Select the range C1:F1.

7. Follow these steps to insert the cells and shift your existing data down:

8. Select the range A3:B3 and choose HomeCellsInsert . Everything in columns A and B, below cells A3 and B3, is shifted down one cell.

9. Select row 1 and choose HomeCellsInsert again. Because you selected an entire row first, a new row is inserted. You will now apply some formatting to make the worksheet more presentable.

10. Follow these steps to merge and center a range: Select the range A1:F1. Choose HomeAlignmentMerge & Center . While the merged range is still selected, choose HomeFontFont Size16. Type Green Clean in the merged cell.

The font size was applied to Green Clean even though this formatting was changed before you typed the title. 11. Merge & Center the range A2:F2 and change the font size to 14 12. Merge & Center the range A3:B5 and change the font size to 14. Notice that the Merge & Center command works to merge both columns and rows at once. 13. Merge & Center the range C3:F3 and choose HomeFontBottom Border. 14. Merge & Center the range C5:F5. 15. Save and close the file.
