Exchange Online Dedicated is the enhanced enterprise messaging service of the Office 365 Dedicated suite. As a service available only to large enterprise customers, the minimum commitment for Exchange Online Dedicated is 30,000 user subscriptions within your primary geographic service region. To accelerate service innovation while continuing to provide unique value to Office 365 Dedicated customers, Microsoft has evolved the suite of dedicated subscription services as a premium offering

of Office 365. Each new service offering, currently referred to as a vNext release, leverages a common service fabric that is capable of supporting all implementations of a particular Office 365 cloud subscription service.

The multi-tenant version of the Exchange Online Service Description and related IT Pro articles held within Microsoft TechNet are the base material for the vNext release. In some cases, the Exchange Online Dedicated premium offering differs slightly at the administrative and user levels when compared to its multi-tenant peer. The table shown below provides an overview of feature implementations that are unique for the vNext release. Links to Service Description explanations also are included.

Exchange Online Dedicated vNext offers the option to deploy the service into multiple geographic regions. This provides the ability to define where mailbox data resides at rest. A single Exchange Online Dedicated vNext deployment can span North America, Europe, and/or Asia-Pacific, and user content can be assigned to any of those regions on a per-mailbox basis. All mailboxes and users, regardless of region, are managed from the same self-service administration tools.

Supported IRM options for Exchange Online Dedicated are the use of either (a) an on-premises AD RMS server in conjunction with Exchange Online Dedicated or (b) the cloud based Azure Rights Management service. If an on-premises solution is chosen and SharePoint Online Dedicated also becomes a subscription service for your environment, the on-premises AD RMS server cannot be used to support SharePoint Online Dedicated. The only supported rights management option for SharePoint Online Dedicated is the Azure Rights Management service.

Feature is an API currently provided with the vNext release. The self-service capability allows you to retrieve Internet Information Service (IIS) logs and Event logs (system and security for your Exchange Online environment. The data can be downloaded in near real-time to your on-premises systems for further analysis.

Available only when the Exchange Online and SharePoint Online environments both are using the vNext release.

Exchange Online Dedicated provides the ability to selectively block protocols used by Internet clients. This feature is not described in the Exchange Online service description. IT Professional level documentation for the feature exists within the Extranet site for Office 365 Dedicated customers.

The on-premises Lync Server can be the 2010 or 2013 release. Support for the display of user presence status is provided for Outlook as well as Outlook Web App clients.

Exchange Online Dedicated vNext provides the ability to establish delegation relationships while in a hybrid topology between Exchange Online Dedicated vNext and an on-premises deployment of Exchange Server. Cloud-based mailboxes can select on-premises delegates and vice versa.

This feature is not described in the Exchange Online Service Description. IT Professional documentation for this feature exists within the Extranet site for Office 365 Dedicated customers.
