WORD will meet women where they are in their lives and provide a supportive environment to assist them in succeeding.? For 10 Returning Women WORD will offer wrap-around services, focusing on the unique needs of each woman, through Peer support, Case Management, Behavioral Health Services and Employment Support.? All Returning Women in the community, despite enrollment in the wrap-around service, will have access to weekly groups held at WORD, offering women a safe space to come together in their shared experience.??DonateNow"Hello" From our Director?As WORD gears up for our end-of-year giving, with both?#GivingTuesday?and direct requests from all of WORD’s supporters, it is with mixed feelings that I will be retiring at the end of the year.?I have been a part of WORD in many different capacities since 2001 and am still passionately committed to WORD’s mission of “Strengthening our community by creating opportunities that support and inspire Women”.?Everyone benefits when Women are supported in their lives to reach their goals and become their best selves.? But many barriers still exist.? Women still make?68.3% of what their male counterparts make.? Factor in time off for women to take care of newborns and sick children and the longer term ramifications are even worse.? Women receive less in Social Security benefits because of those loss of wages.? The cost of childcare affects families economically, and stresses single mothers, who often have lower paying jobs, in an even more significant way.WORD started 33 years ago to help women overcome some of these barriers.? Established in 1986 to assist low-income women and families in achieving economic self-sufficiency WORD worked to empower women to actively shape programs and policies that affected their lives. WORD first received public recognition in 1987 when seventy-five of its volunteers walked to each Missoula area legislator’s home protesting the economic conditions of women on welfare. The walk received front-page newspaper coverage and WORD used the tide of interest to launch a demonstration project that focused on the empowerment of women as a way to move off the welfare system.Since our founding, WORD has spearheaded, supported and participated with organizations, agencies and individuals who are committed to building community in Missoula. The innovative culture of WORD has and continues to spark new ideas and programs that have greatly impacted our community.? WORD’s entrepreneurial program,?Women’s Economic Development Group (WEDGo)?expanded to become Missoula’s?Montana Community Development Corporation (MCDC),?now? HYPERLINK "" MoFi, which provides business financing to transform individuals and communities. WORD’s affordable housing program became? HYPERLINK "" Homeword, which is no longer part of WORD, Inc. but, continues to build affordable housing and provides housing counseling and education. And, for ten years, WORD was the founder and fiscal sponsor for?Montana Women Vote.As I move to the next chapter of my life I will continue to support WORD and their mission, “Strengthening our community by creating opportunities that support and inspire women!”?I invite you all to?donate?to WORD to help us continue helping women and their families in our Missoula community.?WORD in the UM ParadeWe had a great turnout with a very broad age range. This was incredible, as the kids seemed to have an amazing time hand delivering candy to parade attendees. We also had a very satisfying response to our marching. Many people were reading our signs and learning about the issues WORD is working to improve in Montana. Alongside this, we heard several groups cheer us on as we walked.?Overall, it was an exciting and slightly emotional experience seeing just how many Missoula folks support our cause!A Message from MorganMorgan Corkish?is the Development and Marketing Directing Intern for WORD. She works to build the supportive base for the organization through outreach and fundraising events. Now For #Giving TuesdayWhat's New at WORDLucky's Market Bags for Change?-?For every re-usable bag you bring with you to Lucky's Market from?November 15th through February, Lucky's will give you a wooden token to deposit in the WORD fundraising box.?#GivingTuesday -?Giving Tuesday has become a cornerstone of charitable holiday giving since its creation in 2012. The worldwide movement promotes and celebrates those warm and fuzzy feelings you often notice around December. The event takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and serves as a reminder to folks to show their appreciation for more than just close friends and family, but also for their favorite nonprofits, like WORD!! Celebrating this event with WORD allows us to promote women in our state for the year to come.
