JOB DESCRIPTION

The New York City Comptroller is the City¡¯s Chief Financial Officer. An independently elected official,

the Comptroller¡¯s wide breath of mandated responsibilities includes safeguarding the City¡¯s fiscal

health, rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in local government, and ensuring municipal agencies

serve the needs of all New Yorkers. The First Deputy Comptroller provides and guides policy and

operational support to the Comptroller, and is responsible for overseeing the agency¡¯s 18 diverse

bureaus, 800 employees and its $110 million operating budget. We are seeking an Executive

Assistant who will be responsible for providing daily administrative support to the First Deputy

Comptroller and the Executive Office and manage special projects, as needed. Ideal candidates will

possess excellent skill sets including superb interpersonal and communication qualities, good

judgment and strong commitment to public service. Some exposure to government operations and

community affairs is ideal.

Reporting directly to the First Deputy Comptroller, the Executive Assistant¡¯s responsibilities include,

but are not limited to, the following:

Manages, coordinates, and prepares the schedules and activities of the First Deputy

Comptroller encompassing highly confidential administrative/secretarial tasks, managing the

First Deputy Comptroller's Outlook calendar, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas,

prioritizing appointments, answering phone calls, responding to inquiries, taking accurate

messages and/or directing calls to appropriate personnel and greeting visitors in a

professional and poised manner;

Collaborates and communicates with leadership team of the agency to provide operational

assistance to the First Deputy Comptroller on a variety of related initiatives and projects;

?

Creates effective written materials for internal and external use including but not limited to,

memoranda, correspondence, presentations and reports; compiles spreadsheets and may

maintain statistics for all ongoing projects, tracks and responds to correspondence, drafts

and/or edits internal and external memos, and agency-wide announcements;

?

Acts as the office manager for the Office of the First Deputy Comptroller handling various

ministerial matters such as support services, mail, supplies and facilities issues as needed;

?

Interacts, in a professional and positive manner, with the Comptroller, staff members,

community organizations, public officials and the public; and, acts as a backup for the

Secretary to the Comptroller, as needed;

Performs other related duties, as may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. BA/BS degree from an accredited college and at least four (4) or more years of professional

experience handling confidential administrative responsibilities, preferably, as a lead assistant

to a senior executive in a large or a complex setting; or,

2. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience mentioned above.

PREFERRED SKILLS IN ADDITION TO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A strong commitment to community and public service expected;

The temperament to interact with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and

professional manner; ability to exercise independent judgment when appropriate;

Ability to work well under pressure; self-motivated with a proven ability to solve problems;

aptitude for working collaboratively under varying degrees of supervision;

?

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including Microsoft Office Suite

proficiency; meticulous organizational, project, and time management skills.
