How to Get Your Credit Report

You can contact any one of the following Credit Report Services:

1. Equifax Credit Information Services

1. Please note that each of these agencies’ reports can vary from each other.

Information you must include in your letter of request:

A request for the credit report must be in writing and signed and accompanied by the correct payment amount (or reason for requesting a free copy). Please provide all of the following information for each report requested:

1. Full name, including Jr., Sr., III;

2. Address or addresses for past 5 years including zip codes;

3. Social Security number;

4. Date of birth;

5. Phone number;

6. Current employer;

7. Spouse’s full name;

8. Copy of your drivers license;

9. Current billing statement, or other document that lists your name and address.

Cost:

The cost for each credit report can cost up to $9.00 for an individual. This amounts to $18.00 for a husband and wife. Your payment must accompany the request for your credit report.

You are entitled to one free copy of your credit report per year if you meet any of the following criteria:

1. You are unemployed and plan to look for a job within 60 days;

2. You are on welfare;

3. Your report is inaccurate because of fraud.

If you are entitled to a free credit report for any of the above reasons, you must certify this reason in writing when requesting the free report.

In addition, if you have been denied credit, insurance, or employment because of information supplied by a CRA (Credit Reporting Agency), the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) states that the company you applied to must give you the CRA’s name, address, and telephone number. If you contact the agency for a copy of your report within 60 days of receiving a denial notice, the report is free.
