To benefit our athletes, the following code of ethics has been put in place and every person, adult or child, is expected to adhere to;Do not criticise, abuse or scream at athletes, other parents or officials.Accept decisions of all officials or referees as being fair and ruled upon in an impartial manner.Support other athletes in their endeavour to achieve the best they can.Encourage children in a positive manner as development is not the same in all, therefore, some children may take time to show ability or improvement.Be patient with officials trying to arrange the competition day, as they are parents and volunteers also.A copy of the Little Athletics Code of Conduct for athletes and parents can be found at the end of this parent handbook.BLUE CARDSAge Managers are required to hold a valid Blue Card. All parents/caregivers of children attending our centre are also encouraged to complete a Volunteer Blue Card application form supplied. This service is provided free of charge to volunteers by the Public Safety Business Agency. The move for all adults in contact with children to have a Blue Card is strongly supported by Little Athletics Queensland. Children who are two years old and have not yet turned three are not permitted to join Little Athletics until their third birthday. REGISTRATION & FEESThe registration fee includes membership of Little Athletics Queensland, Mudgeeraba Little Athletics and covers members with insurance at training sessions, during the competition season and at any LAQ carnival. FOOTWEARGeneral Footwear:Suitable footwear must be worn by all athletes, while competing in all events at Little Athletics Centres.Spikes:At Centre level at the Centre Management discretion, athletes from U11 age group and upwards can wear spikes in appropriate events. Competitors in the U6 to U10 age groups may not wear spike shoes. Competitors in the U11 to U12 age groups may wear spike shoes in long jump, triple jump, high jump and javelin and in events run entirely in lanes. Competitors in the U13 to U17 age groups may wear spike shoes in long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin and in all track events (except walks). Spike shoes with spikes removed shall not be worn by any competitors in events where they are not able to wear spike shoes. Spike shoes must only be worn during an event and are not to be worn to and from an event Spiked shoes should always be carried in a suitable bag and stored safely when not in use. On our grass track spikes must be no longer than 12mm. Any athlete not exercising care when using spikes may be disqualified from wearing them for the remainder of the competitionWEEKLY COMPETITION DAYSOur competition will commence at 8:00am each Saturday morning. Athletes will begin with a whole group warm-up whilst parents receive information regarding the mornings’ events and event training. Competition will comprise of 5 events for all age groups. Parents are required to help organise athletes in their events and escort the age group to the next event.It is a requirement of all MLAC Parents to always remain at the track with your child/ren and to assist wherever possible. Children without a parent/guardian present may not be permitted to compete in the days’ events.RECORDING Points are allocated for each event attempted.The point system we implement is entered into a computer program. When time/distances are entered, the computer will automatically award each athlete their correct points, which will go towards determining the Age Champion and Club Champion at the end of the season. Athletes must have their event results recorded by the Age Manager. Failure to do so will also result in no points being allocated for that event.The points system used to find our Age Champions is as follows:1st place = 6 points2nd place = 5 points3rd place = 4 points 4th place = 3 points 5th place = 2 points All other athletes = 1 pointNo points are awarded if an athlete does not start an event or show a genuine attempt to complete it.There are usually a couple of groups each year where the members are only separated by 1 or 2 points so it can come down to the last day of competition to decide the Age Champion. For this reason, it is important to do every event even if you are only picking up that 1 point.At the end of the season, points are tallied and Age Champion trophies awarded. The person with the most points over the whole club is the Club Champion for the year.*Please note that a participation percentage must be met to be eligible for any end of season awards.RECORDSRecords for each age group and gender are shown on the recording sheets. Should a centre record be broken, it must be verified by a committee member at the time of the event. If the record is not verified, the athlete may risk the results being disqualified (club points will still be awarded regardless of verification). HOW DO I LOOK UP MY RESULTS?Athlete results are recorded and are available through the ResultsHQ website. A username and password will be emailed to each athlete at the start of the season. It is not spam but it may go to your junk folder so please check there if you do not receive it prior to the start of the season.Accessing ResultsHQGo to .au. Your ResultsHQ username?is the?email address?you gave Little Athletics Qld when you registered.If you forget your password or the initial email does not arrive, click "Forgotten your password?" and it will be emailed to you direct from ResultsHQ.Once you have logged in to ResultsHQ, you are able to change your ResultsHQ password, by selecting your family name (in the top right hand corner), select “Profile” and then change your password and click on “Save”.To access current & historical results:Once you have logged into ResultsHQ, at the top of the screen is a Results menu item.? Select that and then choose the relevant date, age, gender, and event and the full results will be displayed for that event. To see last year’s results click the “Previous Season Results” button.To access the Club records:Once you have logged into ResultsHQ, at the top of the screen is a Records menu item.? Select that and the full records will be displayed for the Club. You can narrow this down by clicking on the relevant age, gender and event buttons. You can also sort by clicking the various column headers.McDONALD’S ACHIEVEMENT AWARDSMcDonalds Awards will be given out to athletes at the end of the season when they achieve the appropriate levels of performance*. The McDonalds Awards, as set out by LAQ, are awarded when the athlete achieves the relevant level in all events applicable to their age group.As at date of printing the levels of performance are still being reviewed by LAQCANTEENEach week age groups take it in turns to supply volunteers to cook the BBQ and help in the canteen. All profits go directly back into the centre, so please support our Canteen. We offer a variety of options but if you have any requests please speak to our canteen convener, Helen Anderson. HOW CAN YOU HELP???Don’t just sit around and watch! Join in the fun with some constructive assistance. Each week the Age Managers will need assistance with your child’s group. This can be with timekeeping, place judging, raking the sandpit, placing the bar back on the high jump etc. Each group will require a parent to volunteer as Age Manager. It’s not as daunting as it sounds. An Age Manager gives the Committee a direct point of contact with the group. If you need help with anything, just ask one of the friendly committee members who will be on the field all morning.If you would like to become more involved in your child/children’s athletics you can become an “Official”. This simply involves learning a little more about the specific rules relating to a particular event. The more qualified helpers we have the more our Little Athletes will benefit. Respect all good performances whether from your Centre or the opponents and shake hands with and thank the opposing athletes and officials after the event – win, lose or draw.Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit.Always respect the official’s decision.Never become involved in acts of foul play.Honour both the spirit and intention of the competition rules and live up the highest ideals of ethics and sportsmanship. Avoid gamesmanship and respect the traditions of the sport.Never engage in disrespectful conduct of any sort including profanity, sledging, obscene gestures, offensive remarks, trash-talking, taunting or other actions that are demeaning to other athletes, officials or supporters.Care for and respect the facilities and equipment made available to you during training andcompetition.Safeguard your health. Don’t use any illegal or unhealthy substances.Recognise that officials and coaches are volunteers who give up their time to provide their services. Treat them with the utmost respect.Do not bet or otherwise financially speculate, directly or indirectly, on the outcome or any other aspect of a Little Athletics event or competition in which you are involved.PARENT / SPECTATORCondemn all violent or illegal acts, whether they are by athletes, coaches, officials, parents or spectators.Respect the official’s decisions. Don’t complain or argue about actions or decisions during or after an event.Unsportsmanlike language, harassment or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated.Encourage athletes to play by the rules and to respect opposing athletes and officials.Never ridicule or scorn an athlete for making a mistake, respect their efforts.Understand that sport is part of a total life experience, and the benefits of involvement go far beyond the final placing of an event.Participate in positive cheering that encourages the athletes in the Centre you are supporting.Don’t engage in any cheering that taunts or intimidates opponents, their fans or officials.Remember that children participate in Little Athletics for their own enjoyment, not yours!At all times follow the directions of the Arena Manager and/or other competition day officials.Never arrive at a Little Athletics competition under the influence of alcohol.
