Dear Parents/ Guardians,

As we reach the last day of “normal” school before the Easter holidays I write to thank you for the support you are giving to your children at home. No one underestimates the challenge this has been but I write to reassure you that if you getting your children to engage in some reading, maths and exercise you are doing a great job! The brilliant news is that you will now be able to take a break from homework for the next week(

In school today we would have been having our Bring and Buy Sale for Trocaire; a tradition which has been running for over 30 years. I know this is a very special day in the lives of your children (and I have to admit teachers get great pleasure from seeing the faces of parents when their children present them with their purchases!) and one that they will miss dreadfully. I am especially mindful of our present P7 class who will miss out on being shopkeepers and having first choice. We will have to find a way to have this sale when these dreadful days are over.

This is also the week when P4 present the Stations of the Cross. All teachers set some Easter Week homework this week so please encourage your child to think about these events in Jesus’ life and offer up some prayers for our whole school community. You can stay connected through the Parish webcam and Facebook page. Don’t forget to send photos of your work to stjarlathsprincipal@ for inclusion on the website.

Please remember that after Easter we expect Covid 19 to be more prevalent leading to even more anxiety among adults and children. Looking after everyone’s mental health should be a priority, so if homework causes extra stress some days just leave it and do something fun. We will all catch up academically.

In preparation for supporting you after Easter I have asked everyone to complete a questionnaire. To date 57 families have responded. I really would love it if all families responded, because at least I would then know that everyone is getting my messages. The survey is on our website and was also sent in a text message.

We are running an easter egg competition for our pupils in which they have to decorate a hard-boiled egg in the image of a famous or historical figure. Check out the entries already on our website. Competition ends on Friday 10th.

Finally, I would like to issue a massive thank you to the Health Care workers in our school community. We will forever be indebted to you for your courage and commitment in the midst of this pandemic. Being the mother of a nurse myself I know only too well the strains you are working under and the fears of your families. You are an inspiration to us all!! Be assured that you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Take care everyone and try to enjoy the Easter break as best you can as a family while staying at home, staying safe and supporting our NHS.

God bless,

J S Loughran

Principal
