Job Summary:

Performs basic cleaning, and maintenance services for the interior and exterior areas of the buildings and grounds including routine maintenance of vehicles.

Scope of Responsibility:

Incumbent follows general instructions from the supervisor when handling new situations, problems, or deviations from established work procedures. Incumbent has a limited degree of latitude to determine the best way to perform required duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs outdoor grounds maintenance duties.

1. Wash windows;

2. Sweeps entrance areas;

3. Removes snow from walkways, entrance areas, roofs and around vehicles using snow blower and shovel.

4. Cuts grass and trims shrubbery.

2. Performs indoor custodial and maintenance duties.

1. Performs daily custodial services to facility which includes cleaning and trash removal;

2. Cleans, mops, shampoos flooring, carpets and rugs;

3. Performs minor maintenance activities in classrooms, offices, bathrooms and meeting rooms such as replacing light bulbs, refilling soap and paper dispensers, etc.

3. Maintains custodial and maintenance supplies.

1. Keeps supplies in a neat and orderly fashion.

4. Performs routine vehicle maintenance for all BI-CAP vehicles.

1. Cleans and keeps all vehicles neat and orderly.

2. Schedules vehicles for oil changes and tire rotation.

5. Communicates and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.

1. Frequently interacts with agency staff, clients and/or contractors to exchange basic fact information;

2. Refers issues and concerns to the appropriate party for resolution as necessary;

3. Exercises courtesy in communicating with other members of the organization to provide information relating to the work assignment and progress of work or to convey information about conditions or work related needs;

4. Keeps immediate supervisor informed of all problems, unusual or extraordinary matters of significance coming to his/her attention so that prompt corrective action can be taken where appropriate;

5. Adheres to agency’s policies concerning data privacy.

6. Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.

1. Knows and follows department and Bi-CAP rules as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss;

2. Knows Bi-Cap’s AWAIR and Right to Know policies and procedures;

3. Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work;

4. When potentially unsafe conditions are observed makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner

7. Performs other duties and activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and read simple diagrams. Prior experience maintaining buildings and grounds is preferred, but not required. Must have a strong commitment to BI-CAP’s values of collaboration, innovation and compassion as well as a respect for diversity.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include:

• Requires general knowledge of cleaning and maintenance methods and equipment;

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;

• Meets requirements of Department of Human Services background study;

• Must have valid driver’s license.

• Must be unbiased toward low-income families and other racial and ethnic groups, and must have an appreciation of cultural diversity and differing values.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to multiple disagreeable elements, including cleaning chemicals, inclement weather, and stinging insects. Must be able to occasionally work outside in weather ranging from -10° to 90°. There is occasional driving to various locations. The position requires frequent lifting, bending, twisting, sitting, kneeling and standing. Must be able to frequently lift up to 65 lbs. to waist level and occasionally carry up to 50 lbs up a ladder. Must be able to work at heights up to 16 ft., Incumbent is required to take appropriate safety precautions.
