Thursday Students will read these sentences

Review: Reading words in Context

We found the very old book downtown.

We will look around together, even though you did too.

Did you learn to play football with the scout troop?

The brown sugar for the pudding was gone.

Look how often they push and pull that cart.

How many pieces of fruit did you put down there?

Today your child was assessed on reading

Set A, Set B, Set C sentences.

______ Your child successful read these sentences. EXCELLENT!

______ Your child had some trouble with these sentences. Practice reading the highlighted words. Good Job.

_____Your child had trouble reading many of these words. Let them practice reading these sentences with you as part of their homework next week.

**************************************************

Your child was also assessed on reading the attached fluency passage aloud for 1 minute. We are working toward your child reaching the end of the year reading goal of 90 or more words in one minute.

______ You child read 90 or more words in one minute. Great!

_____ Your child read _____ words in one minute. Reading aloud at home will help your child reach the goal of 9 words. The best way to become a better reader is to read. If you need reading materials for your child to practice reading, let me know. I will be happy to send you materials on your child’s reading level to help them practice.

The Scott-Foresman reading program offers a computer test for each selection story as well as the unit test. Your child took a selection test on Helen Keller and the Big Storm. They made a ___________ on this week’s test.

Is It True?

Written by Meera Laurent

Illustrated by Judy Calhoon

Sue needed to see if it was true that a cow that went “moo” flew over the moon.

Sue will read to find a clue. This book is full of cow facts but not a single cow flew.

Sue read about moon facts too. It did not give proof that cows ever came near the moon!

Sue had another clue about what to do. She asked an old cow if she had ever flown over the moon. That cow only said, “Moo.”

Sue drew a picture of this cow. She thought that wings would suit the cow she drew. Her hope grew that she might soon learn if cows flew.

Sue waited and waited for this cow to fly by. But she soon grew tired and her eyes closed tight. Just as Sue started sleeping, what do you think went by, flying and leaping? That cow zoomed right over the moon!
