Community Technology Centers Program (CTC)
Background
In today’s economy, students must possess knowledge of technology and have the ability to use it. Technology is used in classrooms, homes, and businesses for training, project completion, research, and basic communication. In today’s world, technology opens the door to many resources. These resources are readily available at one’s fingertips if the individual knows how to access the information.
Overview
The purpose of the CTC program is to create or expand community technology centers that provide disadvantaged residents of economically distressed urban and rural communities access to information technology and related training. Additionally, the FY 2003 funding sought to provide supplemental instruction in reading, language arts, and mathematics for low-achieving students entering or enrolled in grades 9-12 at high-poverty, low-performing schools. The focus of the FY 2004 funding was similar.
