LESSON OVERVIEW

Big Idea: The clubhouse rules are there to help us through life Key Question: Why should we follow God's rules? Memory Verse: And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin. Romans 8:2

Overview: We are continuing to learn about a very special book in the Bible called the book of Romans. This book is really a letter that Paul wrote to a church in Rome, Italy. We already learned that Paul was one of the early church leaders who traveled around telling everyone about Jesus. Last week, we learned that Paul had a challenge with this church. The church was divided into two groups, the Jews and the Gentiles. Paul's message to them was it doesn't matter which of those groups you come from, the only thing that matters is Jesus. The only group, or club, to be in was the Jesus Club. And, the only way in is by trusting in Jesus and what he did on the cross. The other part of Paul's message to the Romans was about how they should live. Getting in the club is easy through Jesus. But, once you're in the club, there are some rules to follow that help you to live a life that honors God. God's rules aren't meant to hold us back or to make life boring. God's rules are about helping us to live a full life. Not only did God send Jesus to die for our sins, he also gives us the Holy Spirit to help us to fight against making bad choices and gives us the strength to obey God. If you follow the clubhouse rules, your life will be honoring to God.

TEACHER TIPS

Don't forget that you set the tone for your kids. Smile. Have fun. Pursue God together.

Allow each kid to share. The point: Rules are helpful because they bring order and direction. God has rules for us to follow that help us to live to honor him.

Answer: God's rules protect us from bad choices and help us to live to honor him. We may not like all the rules our parents have at home or our teachers have at school. But, rules are important. If you don't have rules, then everyone is just doing their own thing. God's rules are important for us. They keep us safe by showing us what is right and what is wrong. And, they remind us to honor God in the way we think and act.

Bonus Questions: What are some rules at school that you don't like to follow and why? Why do you think your teacher has those rules in place? What are some examples of God's rules? 4-5th: What would life be like if everyone lived by their own rules and didn't care about God?

The fruits of the Spirit tell us how to honor God because they represent who God is. When we trust in Jesus, the Bible says that the Holy Spirit comes and lives in our hearts to help us to honor God by displaying these traits in our lives. The Holy Spirit will help you to produce this fruit in your life.

Allow each kid to share. Encourage them to be specific as to how they will work on this in their life. (pray about it, focus on it, put it into practice everyday)
