Study Guide for the Revolutionary War

Test Wednesday!

I am not expecting you to memorize specific dates, however you will need to know the sequence (order) of events leading up to the war and the date the Declaration of Independence was signed. To help you practice I’ve made a new set of sequence cards for you.

When you are studying be sure to focus on the following information:

Essay

There will be a short essay question on the test. You will be able to choose from the topics listed below.

* Explain the role France played during the war. Include how France became involved and why this country was so important to the colonists. (Battle of Saratoga)

* Explain how a patriot and a loyalist would look at a specific event differently. Be sure to give lots of details. (Choose one event and give examples.)

Your essay will be graded on organization, historical content, and mechanics (spelling, capitals, etc)

Recommended Study Schedule:

Thursday:

1) Organize your notes.

2) Create flashcards for events and people from your timeline

Friday, Saturday, Sunday

1) Use your flashcards of events and practice putting the events in order. Check your timeline. What events were tricky for you? Think of a strategy for remembering them.

2) Create a matching game using the attached People and Vocabulary of the Revolutionary War paper. Play the game several times. Be sure to save the cards to use again.

Monday

1) Practice with your timeline, flashcards and/or matching game.

2) Practice writing your essay question. Ask someone to read it and give you feedback on your writing.

Tuesday

1) Review the information about the different battles we have studied: Lexington and Concord, Fort Ticonderoga, Battle of Bunker Hill, Battle of Trenton, Battle of Saratoga, Battle of Yorktown. Choose one of the battles and explain to someone (or write it down) why you consider that battle to be the most important.

2) Review timeline with events, people and places.

You will be able to earn up to 5 extra credit points for you test by showing your teacher how you studied for the test. Organize your study materials in a folder and bring them to school on Thursday
