Mount Tabor High School

Mount Tabor PTSA Scholarships (Academic, Arts, Athletic): Eligible seniors must be PTSA members by January 1, 2016. Applications are now available.

The Winston-Salem Foundation common scholarship application is available with a deadline of April 1, 2016. Go to to research many scholarship opportunities and to access the common scholarship application. Follow all directions carefully and submit all requested documents. See Mr. Huck or your counselor if you have questions.

ALL seniors who plan to attend any four-year college or university, two-year community college or other training program are encouraged to file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) after January 1, 2016. Families can access extensive financial aid information at studentaid.. Families prepare and file the FAFSA at fafsa.. Parents can use FAFSA4caster to estimate financial aid eligibility now. Students and parents must create an FSA ID at fsaid. to use to complete the FAFSA. Talk to your school counselor about financial aid.

Mount Tabor will hold FAFSA Day on February 18, 2015 during the school day. Students and parents may contact the Mount Tabor Guidance Office if they want assistance filing the FAFSA.

FORGIVABLE EDUCATION LOANS FOR SERVICE (FELS) provides funding for North Carolina students pursuing programs leading to careers in areas with critical need, such as nursing, teaching, allied health fields and medicine. The FELS application and program information for the 2016-17 academic year is available at FELS. The priority deadline for submitting the FELS application is April 1, 2016.

VIENNA CIVIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Seniors from Mount Tabor HS, North Forsyth HS, West Forsyth HS or Reagan HS….or recommended by a member of the Vienna Civic Club

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE SCHOLARSHIP (STATE EMPLOYEES CREDIT UNION)

Criteria: Eligible students are seniors at North Carolina traditional public high schools who have been accepted to one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina; student has demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement; student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and deserving of financial aid

Award: One $10,000 scholarship (over 4 years)

Deadline: May 6, 2016 (Mount Tabor application will include Senior Profile and Resume, Letter of Acceptance to a UNC school, and statement of character, integrity, community involvement, and financial need, and statement of parent/guardian employment to Mr. Huck by April 20, 2016)

Note: The SECU Foundation also provides each North Carolina Community College two (2) $5,000 scholarships. Recipients are selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee at the community college. If you are planning to attend a community college, contact the financial aid office of the community college directly about the SECU scholarship.

UNCF STEM SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Criteria: A new initiative designed to provide scholarship and academic support for talented African American high school students who aspire to pursue careers in STEM fields

Awards: $2,500 scholarships for freshmen (tiered amounts up to a total of $25,000 over 4-5 years of education)

Criteria: Outstanding visual arts, performing arts, writing or riding capabilities; honors and awards from competitions or other recognitions; leadership skills demonstrated through co-curricular or extracurricular activities; GPA of 3.75; minimum 1350 SAT (CR +M) or ACT composite score of 30; student must be recommended by a teacher or counselor

JOSH GRAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are members of the girls or boys soccer teams and demonstrate strong character and leadership skills, extraordinary team spirit, concern for others, a positive and encouraging attitude toward teammates, and a genuine lover for soccer; academic promise and financial need also considered

Award: $1,000

EDWARD KENT WELCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are accepted to and plan to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and demonstrate academic promise, evidence of strong moral character, genuine concern for others, and school and/or community leadership

AUBREY LEE BROOKS SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: North Carolina resident and graduating senior permanently residing in one of the following counties: Alamance, Bertie, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Swain or Warren and planning to attend North Carolina State University, UNC-Chapel Hill or UNC-Greensboro; successful applicants have excellent high school grades and SAT/ACT scores, have participated in extracurricular activities, volunteered in their community and/or been regularly employed and have demonstrated leadership; applicants must demonstrate financial need based on completion of the FAFSA which must be filed by January 31, 2016

Awards: Scholarships up to approximately one-half of the cost of an undergraduate education
