LOOK FOR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY WEB SITES---you will find directions about how to apply and deadlines to apply.

Beginning on October 1, 2019, senior families can complete and file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at studentaid.. We encourage all seniors and their families to complete he FAFSA to determine financial aid eligibility. Check college and university web sites for FAFSA filing deadlines to maximize your financial aid (grants, work study, and student loans).

Some colleges, universities and scholarship programs require completion of the CSS Profile which can be accessed at . About 400 institutions us the profile to determine non-federal financial aid. CSS Profile information is available now; filing begins on October 1st. Check college/university deadlines.

All seniors must complete North Carolina’s Residency Determination Service to determine eligibility for in-state tuition. Complete the survey at . See your school counselor if you have questions about the survey or your residency status.

ROTC PROGRAMS-The Reserve Officers Training Corp is a college program offered at over 1,700 colleges and universities across the US that prepares young adults to become officers in the US Military. In exchange for a paid college education and guaranteed post-college career, cadets commit to service in the military after graduation. At training/rotc, you will find Army ROTC, Marine and Navy ROTC and Air Force Rotary details and application processes.

MOUNT TABOR PTSA SCHOLARSHIPS-Join the PTSA by February 1, 2020 to be eligible for $500-$1,000 ACADEMIC, ARTS & ATHLETIC scholarships

Many state universities, like Clemson University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Alabama, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, Penn State University and The Ohio State University, have scholarship programs for out-of-state students with specific GPA and test score credentials-look closely at schools that interest you. There are many more with scholarship programs that fit students with strong academic records.

NORTH CAROLINA ALPHA KAPPA DELTA EUNICE RIGGINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Young woman ranked in top 10% of class and minimum SAT of 1220 or ACT of 25, good character, participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community), and financial need (not primary consideration)

Award: $2,000 scholarship

NORTH CAROLINA ALPHA KAPPA DELTA MARY ROSE MILLS-LINDA RANKIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Senior ranked in top 10% of class and minimum SAT of 1290 and/or ACT of 27, good character, participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community), and financial need (not primary consideration).

Award: $2,000 scholarship

NORTH CAROLINA ALPHA KAPPA DELTA CLARE JOHNSON MARLEY-MARY EARLE BERGER FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Senior who plans to major in an area of the fine arts, ranked in the top 20% of class, and minimum SAT of 1220 and/or ACT of 25; good character, participation in extra-curricular activities (school & community), and financial need (not primary consideration)

Award: $2,000 scholarship

ALLEGACY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION MEL HUGHES & CAROLINA CREDIT UNION FOUNDATION GENERAL FUND SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Allegacy members who will be full time four-year or community college students

Awards: Four $1,300 scholarships for colleges/universities and four $250 scholarships for community colleges

JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Minority high school seniors who plan to attend four-year colleges/universities, show leadership potential, demonstrate a dedication to community service, and present evidence of financial need; minimum SAT score of 1,000 or a composite score of 21 on the ACT

Awards: 54 scholarships were awarded last year

TEACH IN WEST VIRGINIA (UNDERWOOD-SMITH TEACHING SCHOLARS PROGRAM) SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: High school graduates who will pursue teaching careers in math, science, elementary education or special education

Awards: $40,000 scholarships

Deadline: Priority given to students who apply by December 31, 2019

AMDA COLLEGE OF PEROFRMING ARTS (LA) & AMERICAN MUSICAL AND DRAMATIC ACADEMY (NYC)

Criteria: Talent, merit, academic excellence, and financial need

Awards: Range from $1,000 to $18.000

SETON HALL UNIVERSITY SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE

Criteria: High school students submit a 300-500 word statement that describes an innovative approach or idea you have for addressing one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Awards: Ten Finalists will be selected in late March and will present their ideas in person at Seton Hall University or via Skype on April 24, 2020

NORTH CAROLINA DIVISION OF VETERANS AFFAIRS SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria: Funds provide college support to help children of certain disabled, deceased, combat or POW/MIA veterans; students may be eligible for a scholarship if veteran parent was a resident of North Carolina when he or she entered military service

Criteria: Empowers promising LGBTQ students and leaders to achieve their full academic and leadership potential-despite the obstacles often put before them-to make a significant impact on society

Deadline: Applications available from November 1, 2019 to January 27, 2020 with March 6, 2020 as final deadline to submit semi-finalist materials

THE NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Criteria: Provides scholarships to anyone with multiple sclerosis, or anyone who is the child of some with multiple sclerosis, who will be attending an accredited postsecondary school for the first time.

Awards: Range from $1,000 to $3,000, although a limited number may exceed this amount

Deadline: January 15, 2020

ERICA WOLFE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor senior who has participated in band/orchestra and high school sports, school clubs, and community organizations; minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA

Award: one scholarship, varies each year (usually $750 to $1,000)

Deadline: March 15, 2019 (complete Winston-Salem Foundation one-stop application)

WES BURTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor senior who has demonstrated examples of community and school service, plans to major in mathematics, computer science, business administration, or engineering in college, and demonstrates financial need; minimum unweighted 3.5 GPA

Award: $500

JOSH GRAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are members of the girls or boys soccer teams and demonstrate strong character and leadership skills, extraordinary team spirit, concern for others, a positive and encouraging attitude toward teammates, and a genuine lover for soccer; academic promise and financial need also considered

Award: $1,000

EDWARD KENT WELCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are accepted to and plan to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and demonstrate academic promise, evidence of strong moral character, genuine concern for others, and school and/or community leadership

Award: $500

Deadline: all seniors who plan to attend UNC-Chapel Hill are considered in early May 2020; recipient announced at Senior Awards Day

RUBIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor High School seniors who will pursue a degree at a UNC system school; minimum cumulative 3.0 unweighted GPA; minority students who will be first in immediate family to attend college; demonstrate financial need

Award: Four consecutive years of undergraduate tuition and fees

HISPANIC LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Current or former Forsyth County English Language Learner (ELL) student, be of Hispanic/Latino origin, 2.7 minimum GPA, and have financial need
