Thank you to everyone who participated and helped with State Youth Achievement Day on August 4 at the Temple Mayborn Center. Your assistance was greatly appreciated and I could not have done this without you. Best wishes to our 2017-2018 State Royalty; April, Austen, Maison, and Madison -- You are going to make all of us proud with your future accomplishments and please, always keep in touch.

Congratulations to our 2018-2019 State Royalty court Nash, Grace, Tyson, and Dakota. I am looking forward to traveling around the state with you and will see you at your first appearance at Westfest September 1.

Even though we are winding down Summer 2018 and our youth are getting ready to go back to school, the Fraternal Department will be working on preparing for Summer 2019.

"Out of This World" Membership Drive

Youth Leaders there are only three months to go in this year's 2018 membership drive. There's still time for youth club members to make new member referrals and have them count towards your club's 2018 youth application quota. Your youth club quotas can be found in the back of your 2018-2019 Youth Club Handbook. Youth Leaders please remember this is a way to make extra money for your youth club and yourself. If you have any questions regarding the incentive programs, please feel free to give me a call at (254) 534-0681.

Christmas Ornament Contest Time

It is Christmas ornament contest time! Make sure that you do not use any food items in your ornate design because they cannot be stored or reused on the tree the following year. The Christmas ornament contest will be held at your district fall fun day. Christmas Ornament contest rules appear on page 37 of the current SPJST Youth Club Handbook. The online version of the handbook may be accessed at: uploads/2018/06/2018-YC-Handbook-email.pdf

Autumn Equinox

You can tell it's the beginning of fall when the leaves begin to change color and the air feels a bit crisper. You can tell also when Halloween costumes and candy have already arrived in the stores. But when does fall officially kick off? Universal Coordinated Time is on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 01:54 UTC, but if you would like to know the exact time in your city you can go to:

Then enter your city; and it will give you the exact time of the Autumn Equinox. Example: September Equinox in Temple, Texas, USA is on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 8:54 pm CDT

Balancing Act The Fall Equinox is the first day of fall and signifies the start

of shorter days and longer nights in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, the opposite takes place. On this day, both day and night are equal, with 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark. The balance of light and dark also happens on the Spring Equinox but in the spring the days (light hours) become longer and the nights (dark hours) become shorter.

Balancing Tricks Many people claim that you can balance an egg or a broom on

their ends when the equinox occurs because of the gravitational pull. But some say you can balance an egg any day of the year if you have the right egg and practice it. So ask mom or dad to help you with this project on September 22 and see if you can balance an egg or broom.
