This course will provide you with insight into the workings of the business world, making you a wise business owner, consumer or employee.Meet Mrs. Fosbenner:Mrs. Fosbenner has an extensive background in several business areas including retail, fast food, health care, public utility construction and manufacturing, spanning 20+ years. In addition, she co-owns a sole-proprietorship with her husband Steve. She has many real-life business stories and situations that she will share with you that will directly relate to the course content. Teaching Philosophy: Room C106 (whether physically or virtually) is a safe place in which each person’s individuality is valued. Each student has an interesting point-of-view and sharing these will benefit the whole group. BT is designed so that you will not only learn deeply about how businesses operate but also develop the tools and habits of mind that will help you be successful in college and in your future career. You will study fundamentals - key facts, methods, and procedures which successful businesses follow. Then you will apply these fundamentals in a variety of business-related situations.Upon successful completion of this course, each student will have accomplished the following goals:Goal 1: Develop an understanding of how businesses are organized.Goal 2:Develop an understanding of how businesses conduct operations to generate their product or service.Goal 3:Explore economic factors that affect business operations, including supply, demand, scarcity, and marketing.Goal 4:Examine how an idea can be funded and turned into a viable, profitable business.Goal 5:Explore current trends in business and the economy by building a portfolio of stocks in a stock market simulation.Goal 6:Apply all knowledge, skills and techniques to a virtual business simulation and a culminating business project.How to Be Successful in this Course:Attend class regularly (both in-person and online) and with a positive attitude.Be fully engaged and actively participate the entire block. Policies & ProceduresAcademic IntegrityThe guidelines in the Student Handbook will be adhered to. Specifically, since most of our work will be done using Office 365 programs, sharing files is extremely easy. However, sharing an assignment or assessment that is graded, with another student, who turns it in as their own work, is considered cheating and both of you will be given consequences.Assignments & Grading PolicyAll assignments will be posted and submitted through Canvas.Your grade will be calculated on a weighted basis. Summative assignments weighted at 90%Formative assignments weighted at 10%The average of your 2 marking period grades will determine your final grade.You are expected to submit assignments by the DUE DATE.Assignments not submitted on time will be given a 0.Full credit will be given when the assignment is turned in – without penalty for being late.Assignments and grades in the Portal are populated from Canvas.After an assignment is graded in Canvas, it syncs to the Portal overnight and is visible the next day.Attendance and ParticipationAttendance in the hybrid learning environment is compulsory. You are required to participate daily – in all synchronous (together as a class) and asynchronous (activities on your own) – whether you are learning in the building or from home.Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class and recorded in Infinite Campus.You are considered in attendance if I can see your beautiful face – so cameras must be on.CanvasAll course materials, supporting information, downloadable files and assignments will be in our class Canvas.Canvas is organized by modules and major topics.All assignments will be uploaded for grading to Canvas. To get credit for an assignment being turned in on time, it must be uploaded to the specific Canvas assignment.Files shared through One Drive or attached to an email will not be accepted for gradingCell PhonesMy policy is that cell phones are to be silenced for the entire class. During class, you are not permitted to open or view anything other than the specific program or software that is being used for that lesson.
