FAMILY PROJECT ACTIVITIES



Humphrey’s Wall of Fame (TURN IN DATE-MARCH 17TH)

If your family has a pet hamster, dog, cat, gerbil, rat, snake, fish (or any other pet for

that matter), (or a former LOVED pet) your child may bring in “Our family’s pet Poster” to hang on Humphrey’s Wall of Fame. Just have your child give it to his/her teacher, or Mrs. Hansen, and they will hang it up in school for everyone to see! Make sure your family’s name and your child(ren)’s name/grade is on the poster.

Humphrey Snacks ( MARCH 21, 28,) (APRIL 4)

Fridays during our reading month will be “Eat Like Humphrey” days. Encourage your child to bring a snack to school that Humphrey would eat—raw fruits and veggies,

unsweetened cereal, granola bar, or cheese.

The FCE Adventures of Humphrey/Why I Love Humphrey Contest

(DUE- MONDAY , APRIL 7TH)

Have your child use the writing sheets in your packet to color a picture and write a bit about “Why they Love Humphrey.” Grades: (PreK-1st) And write and illustrate a short story about an adventure Humphrey might have if he visited Fort Calhoun Elementary for Grades: (2-6th). Contest entries should be turned in to classroom teachers by Monday, April 7th. One winner will be selected from each submitted entry per classroom by an unbiased panel of judges. The winners will receive their very own Humphrey (stuffed animal)!

Journal Topic-writings

For families with students in grades 3-6; after every chapter a “suggested” journal writing activity is encouraged. If your child(ren) complete a journal entry (1 full page) for every week, turn in those pages on April 7th, with your child’s name , grade, and homeroom teacher. Your child will receive a Humphrey amazing writer award!!!!!

Humphrey Challenge of the Week

Humphrey the hamster faces several challenges in the book. Listed below are several

challenges. Before reading these sections of the book, discuss as a family how

Humphrey might solve these problems.

Week of March 24: Sayeh doesn’t talk in class because she thinks others will

make fun of her. How can Humphrey get her to speak up?

Week of March 31: AJ’s family is ALWAYS watching TV. How can Humphrey

get them to turn off the TV? Try turning the TV and electronic games/machines off for ONE day/night… What fun things can your family do instead??? Try them!

Week of April 7th: Mr. Brisbane was injured and has a sour attitude. How can

Humphrey help cheer him up?
