WHY FORM A FLEET?

You bought your boat to have fun. So did every other Hobie owner. Therefore, you all have something in common. As you sail your boat more, you will discover that you can have a lot of fun sailing with other Hobies, whether racing around the bay together or exchanging ideas on the beach. The next natural step is to get together periodically to enjoy Hobie Catting.

A fleet can offer you a chance to get together with other owners and enjoy the sport of Hobie sailing. It can provide organized activities: racing, family-oriented fun outings, educational, and entertaining meetings. And it will introduce you to a lot of new friends with a common interest.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN STARTING A FLEET?

Starting a fleet is simple. The first step is to contact all the Hobie owners in your area. You can obtain their names from your local dealer. Get everyone together for a meeting to elect officers and adopt a set of by laws. Once this is done, simply make a list of members and officers and send it with a copy of the by laws to the IHCA Regional Chairman. Once approved, the fleet charter will be sent out, and you’re on your way.

A new fleet should decide what type of activities it wants to have. This will pretty much depend on where most of the interests lie among the fleet members. We recommend a balanced schedule of racing and informal fun activities like picnics, camping trips, and cruises. Meetings can be planned to include educational topics such as sailing and racing tips, safe boating and maintenance suggestions.
