Purpose of the role: Parental influences have a powerful effect upon children's attitudes, achievements and life outcomes. The role of the Family Support Worker is to assist in tackling underachievement by working in partnership with families, parents, carers and children and young people in a school context with a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

The focus of the role is to engage with children and their families within the school context to support positive choices and healthy relationships by developing groups and 1:1 support opportunities.

The Family Support Worker will work with families in a non-judgemental way, empowering them to access support services and educational opportunities. You will provide and co-ordinate interventions to meet identified support needs of families with children aged 0-16 years in the family home, on a one to one basis in school and/or childcare setting and group work, enabling them to overcome barriers to learning and participation and impacting positively on outcomes for children.

Main duties: To assist in the development and delivery of educational support packages which will provide

guidance for children and their families to better enable children to overcome barriers to learning and achieve better in school. To provide individual support to families with early years and school aged children who are affected by a range of issues which can include disability, domestic violence, welfare rights parenting and safeguarding. To assess the needs of children in order to promote their well-being and improve outcomes. To work with Early Help and/or Children's Social Care processes where required and as part of a Team Around the Child, which includes attending external meetings and case conferences, fulfilling the roles of Lead Professional in Early Help in some situations. To work with families and other agencies to develop and co-ordinate the delivery of a shared support plan. To refer families to specialist and other services when appropriate and with consent in accordance with required protocols and monitor family progress and engagement with referred services. To take up referrals and work with parents to identify, understand and meet their children's needs and promote positive outcomes for their children. To facilitate and/or deliver support programmes to identified families within the children's centres (or other approved venues) for additional support. Be accountable for and review own practice using supervision and other opportunities for professional development. To follow lone working policy and guidelines when undertaking community outreach visits. Follow contractually agreed case management procedures, including recording and reporting, involving other agencies, colleagues and line managers where appropriate. To work with and provide support to the children and their families either at school or in the family home, in groups or individually, to assess and address identified needs. To develop, implement and evaluate support plans in partnership with parents/carers, including completion of CAF and taking on the role as lead practitioner for a TAF.

To develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other staff members, professional colleagues within the service, other agencies and community groups.

To work inclusively with parents/carers to encourage parental involvement in the development, delivery and monitoring of services provided by the school.

Together with the school leadership team, monitor and continuously improve manual computerised information systems in accordance with policies and procedures, to ensure that information used by the service is accurate and up to date and continues to support operational needs.

To prepare written reports and attend relevant meetings as directed in order to contribute to reviews, conferences, to include CAF, TAF and other multi agency meetings.

To work alongside Senior Management Team and parents in improving and maintaining high levels of punctuality and attendance.

To uphold the school ethos and actively support the school in implementing it's strategic vision. Such other responsibilities allocated which are appropriate to the grade of the post.

The duties and responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present. The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary. This role will be reviewed annually as part of the PMR process.

Essential Education and Qualifications:

Hold NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Child Care, Health and Social Care or other relevant field

Demonstrable levels of numeracy and literacy equivalent to GCSE grades A ? C / 9 ? 4.

Willingness to undergo additional training relevant to the post as and when identified

Knowledge and understanding of: Child development and working with under 11's Safeguarding policies in a school setting Behaviour management strategies Child Protection, CAF and TAF procedures

Experience of:
