PremerL16186152286000arry L. Premer, 73, of McPherson, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in McPherson very unexpectedly. He was born May 13, 1937, in Binkelman, Nebraska, the oldest son of Lester L. and Grace E. (Swanson) Premer. In his early years he loved tinkering, taking things apart and putting them back together. He grew up in his parent’s grocery/hardware store and developed his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit early on from his Dad. He had many great memories of spending time with his grandparents and uncles on the farm. He was a graduate of Glasco High School in 1955 and Wichita Technical institute in 1956, where he learned his electronic skills. In 1960, he opened Larry’s TV service in McPherson. He continued with this business until his father passed away and then he went into business with his brothers, LeWayne and Gale, and they started L.L. & G. He currently was a partner with his brother, Gale Premer, operating nineteen restaurants throughout the region and the motel and convention center in McPherson. On December 18, 1960, he married Barbara J. James at Ensign, Kansas. The marriage was blessed with the birth of three children, Cliff, Chris, and Carolyn. Spending time together was always a big part of the Premer family. Whether it was camping nearly every weekend during the summer at Kanopolis Lake with friends or the many family vacations all across the United States when the kids were young, Larry made it a point to always be bringing the family together. He continued this family tradition with his grandkids and enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Disney World, Colorado, and the Rubicon Trail. Larry was looking forward to taking his whole family on a cruise to the Baltic Sea this summer. The Premer’s gather weekly for family dinners and to celebrate events in the lives of their children and grandchildren. Larry loved being a husband, dad, and grandpa and even with his busy schedule, he always found time to be at his grandkids school, sports, and scouting activities. continued→→→ 647709779000Larry also loved the great outdoors and loved going to Colorado where he could “get closer with the Lord”. He was a mentor to many young men during his years as Scoutmaster of Troop 133 where he took scouts camping in Colorado, backpacking in New Mexico, and canoeing in Canada.526288052451000Calling Larry a caring, giving, and loving person would be an understatement. He lived to help others and expected nothing in return. He looked at life in a way that he considered every day he was blessed to be on this earth was a good day and was one more day where he could help make a difference through his Shrine activities.Larry was currently serving as Potentate of Isis Shrine Temple and was a member of McPherson Shrine Club, Scott County Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge #172, Kansas York Rite #48, Garfield Commandery #18 Knights Templar, First United Methodist Church, and the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians. He was also past President of the McPherson JayCees, and past President of the Kansas Electronics Association.Survivors include: his wife, Barbara of the home; a son, Cliff Premer (Kay) of Goddard, KS; two daughters, Chris Chaney (Andrew) of Wichita, KS and Carolyn Janzen (Mike) of Wichita, KS; a brother, Gale Premer (Georgia) of Hutchinson; and seven grandchildren, Amanda, Byron, Caleb, Anastasia, Caden, Wyatt, and Levi. Larry was preceded in death by a brother, LeWayne Premer and a nephew, Ryan Premer.AppreciationOn behalf of the family, we wish to express their sincere appreciation for all your kindnesses, evidenced in thought and deed and for your presence at this service.
