For this assignment, you will prepare a poster on an African American scientist or inventor. In order to complete this project, you will need to research your subject. Look for personal and historical information about the place and time this person lived and worked. Gather facts about the field of science this person succeeded in. Keep in mind that you will use this information to present your scientist to the class.

Research must include the following:

▪ Who is the scientist (First, Middle and Last name of your scientist)

▪ When he/she lived (Birth date and Year of Death if not alive)

▪ Inspirations the scientist had to do the work they did

▪ IB Learner Profile that most matches their life and accomplishments

▪ Obstacles the scientist had to overcome

▪ Explanation of why this person is famous

▪ Explanation of what this person was trying to solve

▪ Explanation of the major accomplishment/invention

▪ Benefits of their accomplishment/invention

▪ Problems associated with their accomplishments/invention

▪ Evaluation of whether or not what they accomplished/invented solved the problem

▪ Discussion how the world has benefitted from the accomplishment/invention (How has our lives changed as a result of their accomplishment/invention?)

Requirements:

▪ Poster explaining your findings on a piece of construction paper

▪ A variety of science vocabulary is used in the correct context

▪ A fact that you found interesting OR a quote by that person

▪ Bibliography with 3 sources in APA format

▪ Poster includes a picture of your person AND diagrams and pictures of the work done

▪ Your name is on the bottom right corner

▪ Your turn in the project at the beginning of class on 2/10.

Projects that do not meet all of the requirements or reflect incomplete research will not earn more than aMmark of 1.
