Art as well as literature shifted after WWII. Art was less traditional and more abstract. Artists were using extreme methods of telling stories much like literature. This is a very famous painting by Van Gogh called “Starry Night.” Although it was done before the shift in American writing, you can see how art was shifting. The use of vivid colors and distortion portrays a deeper feeling. Artists were no longer restricted to traditional landscapes and portraits. All artwork tells a story, but this new type of artwork, expressionism, tells the story from a different perspective. Literature shifted to a more diverse, extreme way of telling a story and so did art.
