Research Chart

1. Your grade on this part of the assignment will be based on how well you complete the research chart, the accuracy and “depth” of information, and neatness.

2. You will make your own chart on paper provided by the teacher.

SOURCES: You must have four sources of information.

One source must be from a database such as Groliers or ABC-CLIO.

Database Citation: List the name and section of the database used.

One source must be from the Internet.

Internet Citation: List the name of the site and the URL

One source must be from a periodical or a book.

Print Citation: Title, Author (or publisher), and date printed.

The fourth source may be any one of the above. It is your choice.

DO NOT…

❑ use more than one source per row. The only exception is that you may use more than one encyclopedia from the same database. For instance NBK and GME are both from Grolier Online. Do not use two books or two Internet sources. If there is not enough info from a source to complete the row, it is not a good source to use.

❑ repeat information in a column. Each source should give you different information (otherwise there is no need to look in different sources). If the source does not provide you with fresh material, then you need to find a different source.

❑ leave any boxes blank when you hand in the final chart.

Use a yardstick, ruler, or a straight-edge to create your chart.

(6” x 3” for each box on 24” x 18” paper)

1. Who or what influenced this person? Explain how. Identify a person, a group of people, an event, OR circumstance that had a big influence on the life of your subject. Then explain how your subject was influenced by the person, the group of people, the event, OR the circumstance you identified. This box should have several sentences. Each ROW must have different information.

2. Who or what did this person influence. Explain how. Identify a person, a group of people, an event, OR circumstance that your subject influenced greatly. Then explain how your subject influenced the person, the group of people, the event, OR the circumstance you identified. This box should have several sentences. Each ROW must have different information.

3. Biographical and Interesting Information: In this box, you should place interesting bits of information that pop up during your research. This can be anything that would interest you and your classmates. Each box must have two good facts. Facts may not be repeated in other rows or sections of your chart.

Bottom Row: Leave this row blank for now, except for the last box in which you can put your name and period number.
