BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROJECT

Assignment Due: February 16, 2015

□ Note: This project will count for 20% of your grade third quarter. NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Needed Materials: Tri-fold display board, construction paper, scissors, glue, crayons, markers, white or pastel computer paper, access to the Internet and a printer, and library resources.

□ This project is given to you to broaden your horizons and knowledge about the impact that African Americans have had on our daily lives and society by the contributions that they have made. In the weeks to come, we will learn about the lives, contributions and inventions of various African Americans throughout history. So to culminate Black History Month and our lesson, you will be required to research the life and contributions of an African American from the past or present. You each have had an opportunity to randomly select the person for your project, and below you will find the guidelines for your research:

□ Note: You must include all of the information below on your tri-fold board.

1. Using a tri-fold board to display your project, the left panel of your display board should contain the following Vital information:

A. Birthplace and birth date of your African American figure.

B. Date of death (if applicable).

C. Early Years (What was their childhood like, where did they live, etc…)

D. Education

E. Adult years

F. What are they famous for? (Explain in great detail!)

G. How did they get started in their career or claim to fame?

should contain a picture of your African American figure in history. The picture can be printed in black and white or in color. If you have great artistic ability, you may also draw your person. However, in either case, the picture must be clear and large enough to see from a distance.

C. The second block should contain a symbol or picture of what they are famous for. For

example, if your have chosen an author you may include a picture of a book, pen and paper, etc… If your person is a musician, you may include a photo of the instrument they played, sheet music, etc… If you have chosen an inventor, include a picture of their famous invention.
