In the Manner of the AdverbNo Supplies Needed!Everyone sits in a circleExplain game then choose one person to leave the room (go out of ear shot)While the one person is out of the room, choose an adverb (Tip: Try to think of one that is a little more interesting than just “happily”Bring the person back into the room to the center of the circleThat person in the middle asks individuals (or pairs of people) to say or do something, “In the manner of the adverb”Continue until middle person guesses the adverbExamples of good adverbs: stubbornly, cluelessly, chivalrously, sarcastically, distractedly, enthusiastically Examples of things middle person could ask people to do: walk around the room, say the ABC’s, brush your teeth…you can have them act out any scenario! Celebrity Supplies Needed:Small slips of paperWriting utensil for everyoneSit in a circle, every other person is on the same team. About 10 per circle is good though you can always adjust. Depending number of people you have per team and how long you want game to last you can always have youth put in more/less clues or make timed rounds shorter/longer. About 3 clues per person in circle of 10 makes the game last around 30 minutes including instructions. Have each person write down three different celebrities/famous people. These can be famous book/movie characters, super heros, public figures (dead/alive), athletes, actors/actresses, anyone! Put all the scrap of paper into a bowl in the center of the group. Each round is 30 seconds (or 60 sec. if you want)For each round, one person starts with the basket and has 30 seconds to get their teammates to guess as many clues as they can get them to guess. Once time is up, they pass the basket around the circle to the next person (who is on the opposing team). 30 second turns last until all clues in the basket are guessed. Count up the number of clues teams 1 & 2 got right. Put all the clues back into the basket and begin again but with round 2 rules. Tally up points after each of the 3 rounds. Team with most points at end of all three rounds wins. If you get really stuck on a card or don’t know who a person is you can “pass” and place it back in the basket. Round 1- Like Catch phrase- you can use any words to describe what is on the paper except the words on the paper. Round 2- One word only. You must choose only one word to get your team to guess. Once you choose a word, you can’t change it! Round 3- CharadesVariations:Have youth write down one famous person, one person from the youth group and one person from the Bible You can even pre-plant cards in the basket with characters from stories you are studying in church or youth group and then just have the youth add in the famous people etc. Change the types of famous things you have youth add- you could add a Christmas song/character during Advent time etc. Awesome BallSupplies needed2 large, tall trashcans1 four square ballCones to mark boundariesRope/cones to create border around trashcans Played like ultimate frisbee (can’t run with the ball) but you shoot ball into trashcan instead of scoring a point in an end zone like in frisbee. Make a circular boundary around each trash can and no one on either team can go in that area around the trash can (to prevent slam dunks and such). Once a team scores, reset or give other team the ball and keep playing. Other game ideas:Werewolves of Millers Hollow- find on AmazonSuper Fight- find on amazon GROG- game in the dark, hide the pieces of a flash light. 2 Grogs trying to tag everyone (if you are tagged, you are frozen until teammate unfreezes you.Try to put flash light together and when you do and shine it on a Grog the Grog dies. Grogs win if everyone gets tagged or flashlight not found and used to kill them before end of time limit Snow White and the 7 DwarvesSet up: Tape a balloon on end of pool noodle, one for each of the 7 dwarves, with a face and name on it. Hide them around the church (in pretty tough places). Object of the game: The group is sent out to find the 7 dwarves and get them to the “safe house” within the time limit: 15-20 min (Leader of the game can set the time depending on how much time you have. Advisors are the “witches” and run around to tag the youth. Youth can only get tagged if they are holding one of the “dwarves” (balloon on pool noodle). If youth get tagged with the balloon they have to drop the balloon where they are and go to the jail and do 15 jumping jacks. Once they have done their jumping jacks they are free to run around again. Advisors can walk someone they tag (max of two people at a time) to the jail to ensure they get there.Safe house: Middle School Room (designate a room)Jail: Children’s library (designate a room)1 adult guarding the jail, 4-5 advisors being witchesIndiana JonesLike capture the Flag but..Each team has different color of balloons- bags of balloons of mixed colors all over the church Goal is to get back to base with your color of balloons without getting balloons popped- 3 points If you get balloon back in pieces (popped)- 1 pointOnly advisors can pop balloons Jimmy Fallon Game NightSilliest games possible! This is the big list of all ever games: HYPERLINK " ActivitiesThese self guided games got us started and I dropped them into a premade slide show to show during the hour?Funny Face Off- I had staff take selfies of crazy faces and had kids try to recreate the faces and text them to me.?Hash Tags- #whyimissedchurch #youthtrip2016?Hosting Bits- Game interludesDo Not Read ListDo Not Watch Youtube VideosThank You Notes (really hard to write!)Pro/Con?Big GamesSticky Balls- I changed it to an all play with clothes pins. I gave everyone a number of pins and let them run around like idiots trying to pin each other. Quick count and then back to the more still games.?Whisper Challenge- make sure to have big headphones. Inner ear buds+ middle schooler hygiene= GROSS?Rock Paper Scissors Pie- Ordered two set of: HYPERLINK " Monkey Tic Tac Toe- order a bunch of those sling shot monkeys and have them take turns shooting them into buckets like tic-tac-toe?Catch Phrase?Famous Face Off?Antler Ring Toss?Lip Sync Battle- some kids are totally game. I’ve found it works best when you pre pick a few songs and let the kids (karaoke style) comeup and sign up for what they want to sing. We had an awkward moment when this kid wanted to sing to a movie version of a pop song that we could only find on youtube (and couldn’t prewatch) so she just awkwardly stood there while the dialogue happened. Make sure to have a plastic or inflatable mic to rock out with.??My dream listRandom Object Toss- just not sure how to do this safely!History of Dance- you’ve seen the clips of Michelle Obama and Will Smith etc doing bizarre dance moves. I would love to throw up on a screen or cards silly names for dance moves like the “stand up for a hymn” or “passing of the peace” or “first in line for the potluck” and see what they do.Egg Russian Roulette- just can’t figure out something not-egg that would be just as fun!
