COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is a show-and-tell, interactive look at the cultural, historical and religious influences on the arts. Each lecture is roughly divided into mini courses, as follows:

❖ In-class demonstrations, viewing of famous pieces of art and architecture, clips of dances and orchestras in action, evaluation of musical pieces and film clips

❖ Extra-curricular movie nights

WHAT IS HOMEWORK IN THIS CLASS LIKE?

➢ Each week the student takes home a different movie from a variety of genre. The student watches the movie (preferably with his family) and completes a handout with directed questions about the movie's theme, style, plot, setting, characterization, etc. Viewing the movie and answering the questions takes about 2½ hours.

➢ Students answer questions based on the lecture notes, textbooks, and the articles in the resource binder.
