Escapades Through British Literature

Romantic Poet Lessons

Directions: Students will have two class periods to find background information on one of the Romantic Poets that we will study. Each student will select a poet at random and form groups based on the poet. There will be six groups, and each group will form a Lesson based on their poet and his/her poetry.

Lessons must include the following: 50 pts (group grade)

• At least 10 Slides (or equivalent information)

• Visual Representations (portrait, picture, map, etc.)

• Background information about poet (Early Life)

• Struggles and successes

• Famous works

• Interesting Information

• Select a poem by the author and complete TP CASTT Chart

• Ask the class questions about your poems.

It is your job to teach not only the background of the poet, but also teach the class about two of his poems. Good lessons should involve the class in some way (a group reading, images, questioning, dramatic performance of the poem, etc.). It is up to you to decide how to best teach your lesson in 20 minutes.

Assessment Considerations

Presentations: Students will present their poet to the class on April 22, 23, or 24. Each group must make sure that they meet the following criteria.

Preparation: Each group member should know his/her role prior to presenting in front of the class. Presentation is neat, organized and informational. 20 pts (group grade)

Participation: Each group member must speak and participate within the presentation. This involves being familiar with your material. DO NOT SIMPLY READ FROM SCREEN. 20 pts (group grade)

Efficiency: Group members will have an order and a smooth transition between speakers. Students will demonstrate the ability to work together during both class periods. 10 pts (group grade)

Poem Explanation: Students should have the poems projected/visible, and you should explain the TP CASTT chart through the lessons. This should take several slides.

Individual Role: Students receive points for staying on task, actively participating in the design and implementation of the project, actively exploring and researching information on the assigned poet, and listening to other presentations. 10 pts (individual grade)
