You will be carrying out some research into the Scientist you have chosen. You will need to find out:

• When they were alive

• What they found out

• Why it was important

There is an information sheet to help you, and you will also need to look up other sources of information including web sites and library books. Then you have a choice of two tasks:

Either:

Imagine you are Oswald Avery. Write a letter to a friend to tell them about what you have discovered and why you think it is important. Remember to set the letter in the time period that the Scientist was alive. Include some details about current events, to give the reader an idea of what else was going on at the time the discovery was made.

Or:

Write a newspaper article, set in the time of Oswald Avery’s death, in the style of an obituary. Outline what his achievements were in his life time, and why they were important. Remember to include some personal details of his life, to make the article interesting to the general reader.
