Mr. Joseph Earl Stanley, 70, of Youngstown, departed this life Sunday, January 18, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Joseph, affectionately known as "Sonny", was born April 18, 1944 in Selma, Alabama, a son of Carl Sr. and Lizzie Mae Harrison Stanley, and came to this area in 1945. He was a 1962 graduate of East High School. Mr. Stanley served honorably in the United States Army from August 1965 to August 1967. Upon his discharge, he was employed by Youngstown Sheet and Tube (LTV) until 1981. He then worked for and retired from the U. S. Postal Service in April 2009. Joe was a former member and sound technician for Word of Grace Church in Youngstown. He and Myra have served faithfully at Victory Christian Center since their arrival in 2008. Joe was a deacon who also enjoyed Brother Herb Ortiz's Bible study. Joe loved to indulge in sweets, fix cars, listen to Christian and jazz music, and loved reading his Bible. Mr. Stanley leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Myra, whom he married February 15, 1985; sons, Vincent A. Levy of Youngstown and Sekou (Rachel) Stanley both of Youngstown; daughters, Kellee A. Goods of Youngstown and youngest daughter, Seleka Stanley of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Sekou Jr. and Sania; three brothers, Carl Jr., Charles and Samuel Stanley; two sisters, Melinda and Elizabeth Stanley all of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, family and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Rosie Mae (George) Jones, Jeanette Stanley Brown, Annette Stanley and Carolyn Stanley Prieto. Visitation hours will be held from 9:30 a.m. ? 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Victory Christian Center, 3899 McCartney Rd., Coitsville, Ohio, 44436. His life will be honored immediately following visitation at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
