firsthand, what it does for a recipient. Also a great opportunity to allow your youngsters to learn about this ministry that they participate in each year. For more info, call Linda Milton at 434-386-3253.

August 30 The Insanity of God

This faith-based documentary will show in theaters across the country for one night only . It is a true story of missionary Nik Ripken

who served (with his wife and family) for six years in famine and drought-stricken Somalia. The documentary tells the story of Ripken who traveled to 72 countries and interviewed more than 600 believers who lived or have lived in the midst of extreme persecution. This journey led to the resurrection of Ripken’s own faith wit the conclusion that if the resurrection is true, it changes everything and the Gospel is authenticated because of what people are willing to suffer for the cause of Jesus Christ. He leaves the viewer with such thought provoking questions as “Is Jesus worth it?” and “What risks are we willing to take for the Kingdom of God?”. JRBA has ordered a free screening package and you will be notified via email when it comes in. You can also view a trailer of the film at . If Phyllis finds a listing of theaters that will be showing the film, she will send the info out.

JRBA REACHES OUT>>>

JRBA Missions Committee

June 21, 2016

I. During the summer months, as we take part in VBS, revivals, vacations, and other activities, let us seek to be on the mission of sharing the love of Jesus with each person we encounter.

II. During the two months that have passed since our May 1 Stop Hunger Now meal packing project, I pray that all of us have begun setting aside money each day or each week for Stop Hunger Now. As we regularly turn in our Stop Hunger Now money to our churches and our churches turn the money in to our association, then we will have more money available for our next Stop Hunger Now project than ever before.

III. Mission Trips – We are very grateful for the fine work carried out for Jesus by our mission teams that have already gone out to serve Him. We sincerely pray that our mission teams that will go out to serve others in Jesus’s name later in the summer will bless many lives and gain personal blessings in the process.

IV. Our next Operation InAsMuch endeavor will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Please begin now to line up some projects that will allow your church to reach out in a very meaningful way to the people of your area. Please let Valeria Breault know what projects you plan to carry out and the name of your contact person. You can reach her at 434-969-4603 or by email at vbreault@.

V. The Blue Ridge Food Ministry, taking place on the second and fourth Friday of each month, provides a fine mission opportunity for each of us to serve others in Jesus’s name. Please come out and help us at 9:30 AM on Friday, July 8, and Friday, July 22.

Thank you so very much for the fine mission work you are carrying out in your churches and for joining with the other churches of our association to carry out mission work for Jesus.

In Christ’s Love,

Jimmy

Rev. Jimmy Dunn, Co-Chair

CHURCH OUTREACH>>>

Antioch’s (Scottsville) Five Loaves & Two Fish Ministry Meal for May served 145 meals and distributed 82 food boxes. On June 18, the Praise Team participated in “Planting Seeds”, a Christian Music Festival at the Lazy S Ranch in Palmyra. It was an awesome event with lots of great music. Members of the church are building a float, and planning to walk in the July 4th parade in Scottsville. They will be giving out bottles of cold water (with the church logo) and candy from the float. Young people will be walking with the church banner. Pastor Dave requests your prayers for this event.

Cedar’s choir and church family visited Heritage Hall on May 25 for a time of fellowship and songs of praise with the residents.

Jones Chapel’s Mission Team will leave on July 9, for West Virginia to minister and serve. Many school supplies will be taken to distribute to children prior to the start of school. VBS will be held and repairs and maintenance done in the community. Pray for the team as they prepare for service.

Mulberry Grove collected and delivered school supplies for the Jones Chapel mission trip to West Virgnia. Members provided lunch to a work site in Appomattox where a youth group from Nickelsville, VA, working with Virginia Baptist Relief, was repairing roofs on two homes damaged by the February tornado. Individuals continue to volunteer at the bi-monthly food distribution at the Crystal Cathedral and to work with the Hispanic ministry as well as the conitinuing outreach to the homebound. The focus for July will be collecting pillowcases, pillows, children’s underwear, and children’s socks for Standing Rock.

“Undie Sunday” is the current mission focus at Sharon, with members contributing new socks and underwear to be delivered by Virginia Baptist mission teams to boys and girls of Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in the Dakotas. Rose of Sharon continues visiting and delivering soup to those who are sick or homebound, and collecting religious study materials for donation to the prison ministry.

Tar Wallet continues to donate Sunday School literature and other inspirational materials to the prison ministry, Hope Aglow.

4

Mt. Zion’s Sewing Ministry made 75 pillowcases, 150 dresses and totes, and collected 12 packs of undies and 2 pairs of shoes for Standing Rock. The WMU donated $100 towards adopting a child in Romania. They contributed school supplies for the Jones Chapel Mission Trip.

Mt. Zion provided lunch for the two teams putting on roofs for Appomattox tornado victims. They had a great time and four of their GA girls went along and helped, for which they will earn their “I Do Missions” badge! Twelve folks went and others made brownies and cookies for the teams. Those who participated at the site were Brenda McAllister, JoAnn Harlow, Mason Harlow, Marilyn Snoddy, Lisa Jones, Kathleen Jones, Tina Moss, Doris Roberts, Olivia Wishert, Lily Shumaker, Rosalyn Miclucci, and Kaylee Snoddy.

VBS REPORTS>>>

Buckingham Baptist held VBS June 6 – 10. The theme was Submerged. The children had a great time being submerged in God’s Word through Bible Study, Missions, Crafts, Recreation, Music and a light meal to start the school. Everyone felt like they were under the sea with the dolphins, sharks, and a submarine. There was much laughter as Jules and Verne started the Worship Rally with a little skit that introduced the Bible Study for the evening. The week ended with a family picnic. On Thursday, the program was shortened to accommodate many water activities which included water balloons and the giant slip and slide. It was wonderfult to see the teens and young adults helping the little ones with the slip and slide. They had an enrollment of 50 with 30 students. A mission offering of $326 was collected. Each night the class that had the largest offering would get to pick an adult to pie in the face on Friday night at the picnic.

Goshen’s VBS was held June 13 – 16. The theme was Submerged. There was a total enrollment of 11 children and 22 adults. An offering of $319.72 was collected for Hope Tree Family Services. A good time was had by all.

Mulberry Grove held VBS June 12 – 16. The theme was Cowabunga Farm and focused on the life of Joseph. There were 35 children registered with 21 workers. The event concluded with a program and a hotdog fellowship meal on Thursday. It was a busy fun-filled week of learning and lively activities.

We will plan on attending that important event and have our Huddle at its conclusion. Hope you plan to attend and I’ll see you there.

Spiritual Impact Stories

From Guinea-Bissau

Sergio loves to play soccer as a goalkeeper. Although he prayed to God asking for goalkeeper gloves, he never dreamed of having his own pair. To his great surprise, when he opened his shoebox, there was a new pair of goalkeeper gloves. He was the happiest kid on the block!

Davi was very happy with all the toys he received, but did not understand why he also got a hammer. He thought the shoebox gifts were only for toys. His father, however, works as a carpenter and did not have a hammer. Davi was happy to give the hammer to his father who was very touched by the whole story of a simple shoebox gift filled with prayer and love by an unknown child on the other side of the world.

FROM YOUR MODERATOR>>>

I was so happy to read that the 2015 Lottie Moon International Mission Offering collected more than anytime in its 127-year history. The offering surpassed the previous all-time record of $154 million in 2013 by $11.8 million. The 2014 Lottie Moon offering totaled just over $153 million. (From article by Julia McGowan, IMB Public Relations Leader)

In one of our recent Sunday School lessons, we were asked to memorize Psalm 37:25, “I have been young, and now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging for bread”. With our missionaires being pulled off the mission fields, I thought about this verse. When I went to the WMUV meeting last year Valerie Carter quoted this same scripture, too. God is a Good Father and continues to watch over His children.
