BR.MTT.APlaceDirect TMS Link: VHA Mandatory Training for TraineesPurpose StatementVA requires all healthcare personnel, health care Interns included, to take approximately 40 hours of mandatory training. This is a condensed version of the 40 hours of mandatory training for the health care Interns. It is a 4 hour web course consisting of 14 mandatory training lessons. This web course fulfills VA health care Interns mandatory training requirements.Target AudienceAny/all nonpermanent nonfederal trainees coming from colleges and universities to intern within the VA health system.Outcome/ObjectivesAfter completing this independent study, participants will be able to:list VA customer service principles;describe the most common medical illnesses and mental health issues associated with military service, including the signature injury of OIF/OEF Veterans;explain the core principles of current VA trainee supervision guidelines;identify the principles of computer and data security, including encryption, password protection, authorized use of computers, and data transmission/usage including appropriate use of thumb drives, laptops, email and text messaging;identify what constitutes a violation of privacy/confidentiality and how to prevent them (emal, text messaging, fax, computer screen, printers, telephone conversation, and hallway conversation), as well as, how to report violations;describe the trainee’s role in responding to a fire or other emergency;describe your role in preventing harm to patients;recall that acceptance of gifts or favors are restricted by federal government ethics policy;explain the importance of timely documentation and the need to assure that there are no incomplete health recored entries prior to the end of the trainee’s rotation or training period;describe how to handle a patient who is manifesting potentially violent or disruptive behavior, and the importance of knowing the physical are of work and its avenues of escape if needed;describe how to handle a patient who is manifesting potentially violent or disruptive behavior, and the importance of knowing the physical area of work and its avenues of escape if needed; andidentify general signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect including characteristics of injuries, inconsistencies (injury and explanations), and patient behaviors.EES Contact InformationIndependent StudyInstructions to complete activityThe learner will register for the course through the TMS website. All prospective faculty and planning committee members participating in an EES activity must disclose any relevant financial interest or other relationship with: (a) the manufacturer(s) of any commercial product(s) and / or provider(s) of commercial services discussed in an educational presentation, and (b) any commercial supporters of the activity. Relevant financial interest or other relationship includes, but is not limited to, such things as personal receipt of grants or research support, employee or consultant status, stockholder, member of speakers’ bureau, within the prior 12 months. EES is responsible for collecting such information from prospective planners and faculty, evaluating the disclosed information to determine if a conflict of interest is present and, if a conflict of interest is present, to resolve such conflict. Information regarding such disclosures and the resolution of the conflicts for planners and faculty shall be provided to activity participants. When an unlabeled use of a commercial product or an investigational use not yet approved by the FDA for any purpose is discussed during an educational activity, EES shall require the speaker to disclose that the product is not labeled for the use under discussion or that the product is still investigational.The faculty and planning committee members reported that they had no relevant financial relationships with commercial entities in any amount that occurred within the past 12 months that create a conflict of interest.This activity includes no discussion of uses of FDA regulated drugs or medical devices which are experimental or off-label.* The ACCME defines “relevant financial relationships” as financial relationships in any amount occurring within the past 12 months that creates a conflict of interest. ................
