Based on four editors review of 615 published articles, Coppens’ 1986 article “Cognitive

characteristics as predictors of children’s understanding of safety and prevention”

was selected for publication in Readings in Pediatric Psychology (1993). The purpose of

this volume is to represent research and practice in the field over the last 20 years.
