EntouRaj for Kids High Performance Grant

Grant Overview

This award will be provided annually to one junior player who is between 14 and 18 years of age competing at the national level, displaying tennis improvement, and in need of financial assistance. Funding will be provided to pay for tournament and player development expenses which include airfare, lodging, entry fees, meals, and coaching.   Players will complete a grant application which will include a budget for exact use for the funds, recommendation letters from a teacher and coach, current high school report card, and parent’s financial information.

EntouRaj for Kids is an annual fundraiser started by ATP player and former USTA/Midwest Section junior player Rajeev Ram. Rajeev started the fundraiser in conjunction with The Hamilton County Community Tennis Association. The fundraiser raises money for a great cause which includes college scholarships and tennis programs for kids across Indiana. A portion of the proceeds raised through EntouRaj for Kids will be earmarked to provide this grant.

Rajeev Ram Biography

Rajeev Ram advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Australian Open Men’s Doubles main draw. Ram has claimed one singles and seven ATP doubles titles in his career, and has been ranked as high as No. 78 in singles. Ram enrolled at the University of Illinois for one semester, and during that time won the national doubles and helped the Fighting Illini win the NCAA team championship.

As a USTA/Midwest Section junior player, Ram won a total of ten national junior titles, captured the prestigious USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championships, and finished No. 1 in each of the Boys’ 12, 14, 16 and 18 age divisions.

In his junior career, Ram won a total of nine national junior titles, including singles and doubles including the USTA National Clay Courts, USTA Spring National Championships (Easter Bowl), and USTA Boys’ Nationals in Kalamazoo. Ram played high school tennis at Carmel High School, earned All-State honors, and became the state singles champion.

Ram is a former Midwest Youth Tennis & Education Foundation grant recipient who received financial support while growing up as a Midwest junior player. Now a professional player on the tour, he is establishing this grant to give back to other Midwest junior players.

EntouRaj for Kids High Performance Grant Guidelines

Established in 1992, the Midwest Youth Tennis & Education Foundation Inc. (MYTEF) is dedicated to supporting youth tennis programs, activities, and individuals throughout the USTA/Midwest Section. As the charitable and philanthropic entity of the USTA/Midwest Section, its mission is: “To develop the life skills of youth through tennis and education.”

The MYTEF accepts applications for grants that fall within the scope of its mission. Applications are evaluated by the MYTEF Grant and Scholarship Review Committee. Individuals funded by MYTEF must reside within the USTA/Midwest Section that includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, as well as designated counties in Kentucky and West Virginia.

Funding:

• All factual information requested on the application must be correctly stated.  In addition to the specific factual information requested on the application, the quality of written responses to questions will be considered.  Applications, including supporting documentation, must be postmarked by the following dates:  January 1.  Incomplete or untimely applications will be returned to the applicant.

• Guidelines will be followed unless exceptional circumstances warrant other consideration.

• Applications will be limited to one grant per year unless exceptional circumstances warrant additional consideration.

• If applicant is not a US citizen, documentation of alien status must be submitted with the application.

• Grants will be awarded after approval by the Foundation Board of Directors.

• Grant application forms are available on the MYTEF website at midwest.mytef.

• Applicants are encouraged to seek assistance from their Community and District associations before applying for MYTEF grants.

• Applicants should confirm with their state high school associations that receipt of a grant will not adversely affect their eligibility to compete on high school teams.

If a MYTEF Grant Is Awarded:

• One-half of the approved grant will be forwarded upon approval by the MYTEF.

• The balance of the grant will be sent when the MYTEF receives a report, vouchers, and receipts for the entire awarded grant amount by a specified date provided to the recipients upon notification of approval of funding.

• Individual grant recipients must provide a final report by a specified date showing how the grant helped achieve the recipient’s goals.

Grant Definitions & Guidelines: Individual

All players must demonstrate good sportsmanship.

Factors considered when evaluating applications: age, rankings, annual improvement, number events played, income/financial need, other resources available.

National Player Level: $1,000 maximum

• Player has represented his/her District in Midwest District Team Cup, Boys’ 18 Team Cup or Marian Wood Baird Cup events.

• Player was top finisher in Midwest Sectional and Designated events.

• Player has represented the USTA/Midwest Section in USTA Zone Team Championships, USTA Intersectionals, USTA National Team Championships.

• Player has participated in USTA National Schedule events,including USTA National Championships.

• Player has participated in ITF qualifying events or has the goal of participating in this level event.

• Player has prior year national ranking.

• Currently, the player appears on USTA National and USTA/Midwest Section Standings List.

Sectional Player Level: $1,000 maximum

• Player has qualified or was an alternate to Midwest Closed Junior Outdoor Championships.

• Player has represented his/her District in Midwest District Team Cup, Boys’ 18 Team Cup or Marian Wood Baird Cup events if invited to participate.

• Player has participated or was an alternate to Midwest Sectional and Designated events.

• Player has participated in or has the goal to participate in USTA National Schedule events, including USTA National Championships.

• Player has prior year Sectional ranking of 200 or better.

• Currently, the player appears on USTA/Midwest Section Standings List.

Applicants must provide copies of parents' Federal Income Tax returns for most recent filed tax year (Form 1040,

1040A, or 1040EZ); include W2s and supporting documents and forms – For the security of applicants and their families, it is recommended social security numbers be blacked out or removed from all tax information submitted with the application.

AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF NAME AND IMAGE

(MYTEF) and its employees, agents, publishers, and personnel (“Authorized Parties”) who are acting on behalf of MYTEF to use my name and image for purposes related to the educational and philanthropic mission of the MYTEF, including publicity, marketing, and promotion of MYTEF and its various programs without compensation to me. I understand my image may be copied and distributed by means of various media, whether now known or hereafter devised, including but not limited to photographs, video presentations, brochures, placement on MYTEF websites, digital form, newspapers or other publications, or other print and electronic media. My image shall include photographs that I provide to MYTEF, as well as photographs that may be taken by MYTEF. I waive any right to inspect or approve the finished product or any material in which MYTEF may eventually use my name or image.

I understand that although MYTEF will endeavor to use my name and image in accordance with standards of good judgment, MYTEF cannot warrant or guarantee that any further dissemination of my name and image will be subject to MYTEF supervision or control. Accordingly, I release MYTEF and the Authorized Parties from any and all claims and liabilities related to dissemination of my name and image.

This Authorization for Use of Name and Image is effective the date set forth below and shall be binding on my heirs, successors, assigns, and legal representatives, and shall inure to the benefit of the legal representatives, successors, and assigns of MYTEF.
