-68580000JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition TitleManager/Senior Teacher, ?tātara Children’s CentrePosition PurposeTo provide professional and pedagogical leadership of the Centre and, working in partnership with whānau and community, deliver outstanding education and care to the children enrolled.Nature of PositionFull time, Permanent (1.0 FTE)Conditions of ServiceEarly Childhood Collective Agreement of Aotearoa (ECECA)or Individual Employment Agreement Appointment SalaryAs per Senior Teacher/Tumuaki range [based on Centre Roll and Staffing Responsibility] [ $95,741 as at 1 August 2020 ] Responsible forCentre whanau: Administrator; Team Leaders; Teachers; Children (enrolled in the Centre) Support staff Centre VolunteersResponsible toExecutive Director, Student and Academic ServicesOther Functional RelationshipsExecutive Team Other Staff and ManagersTeacher training providers Government Agencies: Ministry of Education; Group Special Education, Education Review Office; WINZ; Public Health; Oranga Tamariki: Ministry for Vulnerable ChildrenAchievement Areas Curriculum Staff DevelopmentLeadership and Operations GeneralKEY TASKSCurriculum Staff DevelopmentEnsure the provision of a planned curriculum that will enhance children’s learning and development Provide leadership, support and advice on the continuous development and review of the Centre programme based on Te Whāriki, Centre Philosophy, Priorities for Children’s Learning, Kaupapa Ahurea and other guiding documentsSupport and guide the team in the development of individual children’s development plansFacilitate and encourage the integration of te reo me nga tikanga Māori across all areas of the curriculumOversee the development of processes that ensure smooth transitions for children into, within and out of the centreModel and promote teaching and learning practices consistent with Standards for the Teaching ProfessionRecruit and employ staff as needed, in consultation with the Team Leaders and HR teamEngage “experts” from other agencies as necessaryEnsure an induction programme is in place for all new staffProvide an induction and mentoring programme for provisionally registered teachers and mentors for student teachersLead an appraisal process based on the Code of Professional Responsibility and Standards for the Teaching Profession and the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand guidelines for obtaining and maintaining teacher certificationBudget for and organise professional development for all staffProvide professional guidance and feedback to all Centre staffEncourage and support the development of leadership capacity according to individual strengths and interestsPlan for and approve leave and apply terms and conditions as specified in the ECECAPromote a collaborative team cultureLeadership and Operations Lead the development and implementation of the Centre’s strategic vision Lead continuous improvement focussed internal review and evaluation of the Centre’s operations such as learning and teaching practices, the philosophy, policies, procedures, Priorities for Children’s Learning, Kaupapa Ahurea o ?tātara, the appraisal process, and administration systems. Set and monitor annual budgets, in consultation with the EIT Finance teamFacilitate the development and implementation of practices that reflect the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the dual heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand across all Centre operationsOversee the provision of a physically, emotionally and culturally safe learning and working environment and maintain health and safety to institutional and national standards Ensure that all statutory and regulatory requirements and obligations are metGeneral Develop and maintain currency of knowledge and practices in Early Childhood management. Work cooperatively with colleagues to develop constructive working relationships across the institute.Contribute to sector and have a general awareness of key matters for the institute.Undertake other duties as agreed that may be requested by your Manager.Positively promote the centre in the communityPERSON SPECIFICATIONPOSITIONKnowledge, Skills and ExperienceA sound working knowledge of Te Whāriki, New Zealand Early Childhood CurriculumUse learning principles and practices and use current knowledge of learning and teaching practice and trends in ECE, and apply technologies to support learning.Proven success in ECE teaching practicePrevious relevant management experience an advantage.
