The mission of the Tennessee State University Career Development Center is to prepare students for life after college. We endeavor to meet our mission by assisting our students and alumni to make optimal use of their knowledge, skills and abilities. One of the best ways for you to gain valuable work experience by is by participating in professional internships. Employers hiring new graduates want to see work experience in your career field on your resume-- and internships are the way to obtain that experience.

With that in mind, we have compiled a list of competitive, professional internships by major that we encourage you to research and apply for. As with all internships and jobs, the Career Development Center strongly encourages you to have your resume critiqued by a Career Counselor to ensure that you are putting your best professional foot forward. Allied Health

CDC Public Health Training Program We're looking for smart, ambitious people for a variety of public health training programs. If you are in college or recently graduated, we have a place for you. The world depends on us to solve its health problems; we depend on you to make that happen.

Kettering Health Network Kettering Health Network offers a variety of programs for students interested in careers in healthcare. National Institutes of Health The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research. Helping to lead the way toward important medical discoveries that improve people's health and save lives, NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the causes, treatments, and even cures for common and rare diseases. Composed of 27 Institutes and Centers, the NIH provides leadership and financial support to researchers in every state and throughout the world.

Quality Education for Minorities Network Internship Program The QEM Network Summer Internship Program includes three components: Science policy-focused student internships; Health-focused internships for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); and Science Education internships for students from Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). The QEM Internship Program is designed to: 1) enhance participating students' ability to apply their knowledge to a range of internship assignments; 2) increase their understanding of the health and educational needs of minorities; and 3) instill a sense of responsibility in each intern to help others in their communities.

UNC Healthcare The Administrative Internship Program (AIP) consists of nine to fourteen weeks of full-time employment within UNC Health Care. With rolling start and completion dates between May and August, the paid internship creates an opportunity for the interns to be exposed to operations within a department in their area of interest. The intention of the AIP is to provide a formalized entry-level experience to both undergraduate and graduate students in preparation for their career and in pursuit of their interests. Partners in Health Every year, PIH's research and advocacy arm, the Institute for Health and Social Justice (IHSJ) hosts a summer internship program for a select number of students and professionals early in their careers who are interested in learning about current issues in health and social justice. In addition to working on individual projects, summer interns have a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about PIH and gain practical exposure to the administration of a non-governmental organization through interactions with staff members, movie and book discussions, and social activities.

North Carolina Theatre NC Theatre is always looking for eager interns to help in all areas of the theatre including administration, carpentry, costuming, hair/wig/makeup assistant, lighting (programming and master electricians), props, sound, stage management and stagehands.

Children's Theatre of Charlotte Children's Theatre of Charlotte also offers internships during the Fall and Spring. First preference will be given to college students who have already acquired some basic training and experience in theatre and are ready for the next step toward a career in this field. Children's Theatre is looking to cultivate the next generation of theatre professionals.

North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Internships at the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center are designed to offer meaningful arts management field experience related to an individual's particular area of interest. MTV Networks College students, put your book smarts to work with an MTV Networks internship. The Kennedy Center: National Symphony Orchestra Through the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), internship opportunities are available in many aspects of symphony management including, but not limited to, the operation and administration of a 48-week season of performances with 100 musicians.

The Kennedy Center: Dance Programming Dance Programming is responsible for the administration of a broad range of dance programs including engagements of ballet, modern dance, and The Suzanne Farrell Ballet. The Dance Programming intern will have exposure to the primary elements of artistic programming and artist relations at a major performing arts center. Specific responsibilities include: contract coordination, supernumerary coordination, artist hospitality, special performance event management, and logistics.

The Kennedy Center: Production This fast-paced and busy department is responsible for the production of shows and events in the Kennedy Center's seven stages and non-theater spaces. The intern's duties include logistical support for upcoming shows and events, research for long-range projects, and depending upon qualifications, the opportunity to work on events and shows as a production or design assistant.

The Kennedy Center: Theatre for Young Audiences Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) commissions, produces, presents, and tours productions for young people and families in all the performing arts disciplines. The intern participates fully in the administrative life of a producing and presenting organization. The intern's varied duties include research, assisting with production meetings, auditions, artist hospitality, technical rehearsals, scheduling, contracts, Playbill, sales analysis, season planning, and budgeting.

Fayetteville Museum of Art The Fayetteville Museum of Art's Internship Program provides interns with exposure to the inner workings of an art museum, promoting an awareness of museum careers through experiences not available in most academic settings. Partnering with the Museum is a solid step for a college student to not only give back to the community, but to gain valuable skills that make them desirable to employers after they graduate. The Museum selects a diverse group of talented undergraduate students from a regional pool of candidates.

DreamWorks Animation As our films continue to set new standards of excellence in animated movies, we are committed to seeding the next generation of animation professionals to help keep us at the top of our game. Every department at our company depends on a wide range of skills and ideas to fuel our creative work, so we particularly encourage students from diverse backgrounds with varied experiences to apply for our internship programs. The Museum of Modern Art The Internship Program gives interns in-depth exposure to the workings of individual departments and practical and theoretical training in museum practices, and acquaints them with the role of museums in contemporary society. Working under the supervision of one of the Museum's professional staff, interns contribute to timely projects, gain insight into the functions of individual departments, and learn about the Museum's various collections, exhibitions, and programs for visitors. Internship projects are based on Museum needs and requirements and are assigned to interns with the appropriate skills and interests.

Pixar At Pixar, you will be contributing to the making of our films. How can that be possible? Well, we value everyone's contributions to our films whether your internship is in film production, software development or any of our support functions. You will work side by side with some of the most talented bunch of people in the film animation business. You will apply what you've been learning in school in a very direct way. Not only that, but you'll learn the day-to-day operations of an animation shop in action.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Internships for College and Graduate Students The Metropolitan Museum of Art offers internship opportunities for college and graduate students interested in careers in art museums. Based upon their academic training and interests, as well as the availability of projects, interns work in

one of the Metropolitan's departments--curatorial, education, conservation, administration, or library. Most projects require a strong knowledge of art history.

Nickelodeon Animation Studios Internship Program An internship at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios can launch you on an exciting, fun-filled career in children's entertainment. Love cartoons? So do we! Like to wear a suit? You're in the wrong place! Nickelodeon Animation Studios produces such programs as SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents, Dora the Explorer and The Mighty B. An internship in our studio is a hands-on experience.

The Kennedy Center: ArtsEdge The ARTSEDGE intern will be involved in all aspects of the development and maintenance, including content review, graphics development, HTML coding, and database creation, of ARTSEDGE, the Kennedy Center's education website. They will participate in all phases of development of a mini-site--an online exploration of an arts-related theme-- including research and storyboarding. They will learn how content is acquired, developed, edited, formatted for the web, launched and promoted. Additionally, the intern will work with the ARTSEDGE curriculum team to develop educational materials specifically for students.

Smithsonian American Art Museum Internship Program Since 1968, the Smithsonian American Art Museum's internship programs have provided instruction and inspiration to hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students, as well as others seeking self-enrichment. Former interns have achieved success in professional positions in the art and museum fields, both nationally and internationally. The Smithsonian American Art Museum offers two internship programs to coincide with the academic calendar.

Nickelodeon Recreation Creative Studio Internship Nickelodeon Recreation Group develops live experiences, leveraging Nickelodeon brands and properties. Every year, over 30 million kids and families touch Nickelodeon through branded theme parks, live touring shows, cruises and resorts. Nickelodeon Recreation Group has won a wide variety of awards and is recognized for developing high quality, innovative and unique interactive family experiences. The Orlando Creative Studio is responsible for creative development at many levels with projects spanning across multiple disciplines. The studio team is highly collaborative and the environment is fast-paced and fun-based.

National Gallery of Art Internships in the Museum Profession at the National Gallery of Art provide institutional training to students interested in pursuing a museum career. Working closely with professional staff at the Gallery, interns participate in the ongoing work of a department, complete a project or a discrete portion of a larger project, and attend a weekly museum seminar that introduces the staff, departments, programs, and functions of the Gallery. Possible placements are in the curatorial and design departments.

The Kennedy Center: Partnerships The Community Partnerships programs provide arts education projects for D.C. Public Schools (DCPS). Enrichment and exposure programs for culturally diverse communities in the District of Columbia along with extended performance and training opportunities for students, families and teachers are also provided. The intern will assist in gathering information about each school's overall plan, make recommendations on Kennedy Center resources to support the plan, participate in meetings, site visits, and training on-site and in the schools, and collect evaluation materials for each resource.

Goodman Theatre The Goodman's Internship Program offers a rich and challenging experience for qualified college students, graduates and young professionals who are actively pursuing careers in professional theater. Internships are offered in Casting, Costumes, Development, Dramaturgy, Education & Community Programs, Literary Management, Marketing/PR/ Publicity, Production Management, Scenery/Props, Sound and Stage Management. Goodman interns are entrusted with

a great deal of responsibility and have the opportunity to work closely with Goodman staff and artists in Chicago's large and diverse theater community.

Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship & Internship Program The goal of the program is to cultivate the next generation of theater professionals by providing the highest standard of training through immersion in the art and business of producing theater. Arena Stage provides in-depth, hands-on experience with seasoned professionals. Fellows and interns work in the areas of artistic and technical production, arts administration, and arts education and community outreach. Training is supplemented with discussions and workshops with directors, designers, and senior staff who provide insight into the overall management of the theater.

Olney Theatre Institute Advanced Intern Training Program The Olney Theatre Institute Advanced Intern Training Program provides hands-on advanced training in theater production and administration. The program allows students, graduates, and other interested candidates the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals in their field. This exposure to process and to our audience illustrates what theater means to the life of a community and how the community enriches its theater.

American Conservatory Theater A.C.T.'s internships provide advanced, hands on training in theater production and administration to students, graduates, and other interested persons. It is through this exposure to professionals that our interns learn what drama means to the life of a community, and how the life of a community enriches its theater. A.C.T. internships provide a springboard to a professional life in the theater: our interns have gone on to attend renowned graduate programs, to work in major regional theaters, and to freelance as directors, designers, and stage managers.

American Repertory Theater The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), a fully professional resident theater company that makes its home at Harvard University's Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, offers a comprehensive internship program in management and production.

Juilliard Professional Internship The Juilliard School sponsors a Professional Intern Program in technical theater and arts administration. It is a practical "hands-on" experience working directly with technicians and administrators in their respective fields.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater Internship opportunities at Chicago Shakespeare Theater are designed to provide an enriching, career-broadening experience for qualified college and graduate students. The level of responsibility and the ongoing workload of an evergrowing artistic institution require that interns be highly motivated, energetic and self-reliant.

National Endowment for the Arts The Federal Career Intern Program is an entry-level employment and career development program designed to recruit outstanding individuals. As a career intern, you will participate in a two-year professional development program that will enhance both your technical and leadership skills, and develop your potential for future advancement. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible for placement in a permanent position.
