Predictive Services Discussion:

A deep upper-level trough will continue to move through the West today with rain and snow above 3,000 to 6,000 feet. Strong westerly winds gusting to 55 mph amid relative humidity of 15-30% will develop ahead of the trough across New Mexico and far west Texas today before spreading into south Texas over the weekend. Another upper trough will move along the West Coast Sunday into mid-next week and couple with an atmospheric river to bring heavy rain and heavy mountain snow to California with flooding and debris flows likely. Light to moderate precipitation will spread over the rest of the West through much of the West, with the heaviest rain and snow likely mid-next week in the Southwest.

A cold front will bring rain to the central and southern Plains Saturday, with severe thunderstorms over portions of Texas and Oklahoma, then spread into the Lower Mississippi Valley and Southeast Sunday into Monday. Well above normal temperatures will continue for much of the Plains, Mississippi Valley, and Great Lakes, with temperatures as much as 30 degrees above normal in the northern Plains. While much of the northern Plains into the Northeast will remain dry through mid-next week, rain and mixed precipitation is likely across the northern and central Plains late next week. Very cold air will continue over much of Alaska into the weekend, but a warmer and wet pattern is forecast for next week, especially across western Alaska. A cold front will move through Hawai'i today and bring showers to the northern portions of the islands, followed by dry weather this weekend, with breezy trade winds likely early next week.
