SECTION 4 – STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

|The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for the coordination and preparation of monthly reporting, preparation of annual financial statements, preparation |

|of taxation returns and the supervision of the asset management system. Develops and maintains policies consistent with Whole of Government policies, relevant |

|accounting standards and legislation. |

SECTION 5 – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

| |Coordination and preparation of monthly reporting, including end of month accrual processes and Treasury reporting. |

| |Coordination of processes and preparation of financial statements and related notes for the annual report. |

| |Provide information and respond to external audit review of financial statements and other related year end processes. |

| |Coordination of processes and preparation of the Department’s Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return, including the assessment of reportable FBT. |

| |Supervision of the Department’s asset management system. |

| |Coordination of the accounting for Work in Progress into the Department’s financial management system. |

| |Management of the Department’s Trust Accounts. |

| |Management of Goods and Services Tax and preparation of Business Activity Statement, including monitoring of salary packaging accounts. |

| |Coordination of financial reconciliations. |

| |Financial Management |

| |Maintains financial policies and procedures and ensures compliance with appropriate accounting standards and financial management legislation (e.g. |

| |Financial Management Act 2006, Treasurers Instructions, Taxation legislation, etc). |

| |Assessment of policies, procedures, systems and internal controls for income, expense, asset, liability and reporting activities. |

SECTION 6 – WORK RELATED REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

|Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal and negotiation skills. |

|Extensive knowledge and experience in asset management and taxation, including experience in Fringe Benefits Tax and Goods and Services Tax processes for a |

|large organisation. |

|Extensive knowledge and experience in accrual accounting and the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and other reports consistent with |

|applicable standards and legislation such as the Treasurer’s Instructions and Financial Management Act. |

|Demonstrated leadership skills to deliver agency outcomes |

|Possession of a relevant accounting degree or relevant discipline, has membership or has made substantial progress towards membership of a professional |

|accounting body. |
