Job DescriptionHead of School, Health and Sport ScienceResponsible forLeadership of the School of Health and Sport Science across the Hawke’s Bay, Tairāwhiti and Auckland campuses, in association with the Assistant Head of School. Work with Programme Coordinators to ensure processes such as programme evaluations, feedback and Action Plans; lecturer evaluations; internal and external moderation; programme changes; annual reports and reports to monitors and others as required are effectively coordinated and managed.Work with Faculty Education Advisor to guide ongoing curriculum development and new course/programme development.Convene regular and effective School meetings.Chair the School Programmes Cluster Committee; be actively involved with the Postgraduate Programmes Cluster Committee; and attend/serve on other academic, teaching & learning groups as appropriate. Assist students and act on concerns as appropriate.Staff Achievement and SupportDevelop a case, and ensure all documentation and processes are complete to obtain appropriate authorisation and approvals when a vacancy arises; and participate in the appointment process of new staff to School.Coordinate the orientation, mentorship and probation procedures for new staff as agreed.Negotiate annual performance objectives with staff, including research output targets and professional development plans that are consistent with programme requirements, research targets and appraisals of teaching/courses.Provide coaching and performance management for designated academic staff members. Carry out formative and summative performance reviews of designated staff, including review of job descriptions.Meet regularly with teaching team members to discuss activities, plans, progress toward objectives.Negotiate own performance objectives, professional development and research targets with the Exec munication and Team Building Facilitate the development of the School to a positive, productive team whose practices are consistent with the programme, EIT values, objectives, policies and procedures.Meet regularly with the Exec Dean to discuss objectives, activities, achievements and issues.Support Programme Co-ordinators to convene the Programme Advisory Committees; attend “All Staff” and other meetings; action responsibilities as agreed. An understanding and experience of the academic disciplines of Sport and Health Science together with hands on teaching and research experience are required. A postgraduate qualification is required along with entrepreneurial flair and an aptitude for business development. There are 37 academic and technical staff, with 3 based in Tairāwhiti; 32 in Hawke’s Bay and 2 in Auckland.
