TO ALL GRADUATE STUDENTS:

JACKSONVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY

OFFICE OF STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES

TO ALL GRADUATE STUDENTS:

❖ A FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be filed along with any institutional paperwork that is needed to complete your financial aid file.

❖ All graduate students must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy that is located in the Graduate Catalog, Schedule Booklet, and the Financial Aid Office in order to receive financial aid. All graduate students must also meet all Federal Regulations (located in the Financial Aid Office) including those listed below.

❖ Graduate students are eligible for federal loans only and are required to take a minimum of 6 credit hours that are of graduate level per semester unless the student meets the regulations as listed below for disbursement of federal monies for 6 undergraduate hours:

❖ If you are receiving a teaching degree, you must have a copy of your Evaluation Form from the Teacher’s Service Center in your financial aid file.

❖ If you are receiving any other degree that requires undergraduate prerequisites, you must have an evaluation sheet from your advisor/department in your financial aid file.

❖ Federal regulations state that monies can be disbursed for PREREQUISITE COURSES ONLY. GPA Boosters and No Child Left Behind deficiencies are not eligible for federal monies.

❖ Federal regulations state that federal monies may be disbursed for prerequisite courses for a 12 consecutive month period. If after 12 consecutive months, you have not completed these deficiencies, you will no longer be eligible for federal funds for undergraduate prerequisite courses of any type.

❖ If a graduate student is taking all undergraduate prerequisite courses that student must be awarded federal monies based on senior status ($12,500 per academic year – includes fall, spring, summer semesters). If a student receives this maximum of funds in the fall and spring semesters, and decides to take all undergraduate prerequisite courses during the summer, no funds will be available.

❖ If you are not taking 6 graduate hours and are scheduled to receive financial aid, you must contact our Office the first day of classes to see if you are eligible for disbursement.

❖ If you are taking 6 graduate hours during a semester that are in your degree, you are eligible for federal monies regardless of the undergraduate courses that are taken at the same time.

❖ If you are enrolled during a school session in which correspondence is needed, all correspondence from the Financial Aid Office will be sent to your campus mailbox. This correspondence includes Offers of Financial Aid, checks, requests for additional information, etc. If you do not have a campus mailbox at the time of correspondence, the Mail Center will automatically assign you a box or will hold any mail at the Mail Center Window. If you would like for your mail to be sent to your home address, you must contact the Mail Center for instructions and to make payment for this service.

If you have any questions, you may contact our Office.
