SBA Houston District Office to Graduate 15 Small Business Owners in their first Executive Training Program

HOUSTON –The Houston District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration will graduate the first class of small business CEOs from their Emerging Leaders Initiative (EL). This will take place beginning at 8:30 am Tuesday, October 13th at the SBA Houston District Office, located at 8701 S. Gessner, Suite 1200.

“I am proud to announce the inaugural graduating class of Emerging Leaders graduates” District Director Tim Jeffcoat said. “The training provided by the SBA has been field-tested and proven to help each of them grow as they continue to contribute to the Houston Economy.” “When we support small businesses we support big ideas, strengthen families and build prosperous neighborhoods.”

The SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative specifically focuses on CEO’s of small businesses poised for growth. The initiative provides the executives with the advanced business skills and resource networks to stimulate and support the expansion of their businesses. This benefits the business owners, their employees, their customers, and ultimately our local economy.

Over the course of seven months, the graduates attended a series of specialized workshops and worked with experienced mentors with the goal of developing a comprehensive three-year growth plan. The specialized areas of training included: Growth Strategies, Financial Planning, Sales Growth Planning, Marketing Plans, and Resource Plans. A common thread through the entire program is working collaboratively with other CEOs in a CEO Mentoring Group.

The results from this training are already in evidence - three (3) of the businesses have secured government contracts and others stated that as a result of the EL Initiative, they have been put in a great position to obtain contracts from private sector firms and government entities. About (70%) of the businesses in the program have indicated they have already hired more, or will hire additional employees in the very near future.

“I learned to look at where we are as a company and then where we might possibly get to. The class is a systematic way of setting up the steps to make that journey to where you decide to go. There is a lot of support and idea sharing to keep you grounded but encouraged at the same time. If you want to grow this class is how you step back and figure out how to LEAD that growth,” stated Sherry McManus, a graduate and CEO of Doc2efile, Inc.
