The Transportation Form MUST be completed whether traveling by air, train, or POV (privately owned vehicle), and submitted to LCDR Laura Kusisto. If your cadet is traveling by POV, indicate who will be picking up your cadet. Cadets will not be released to anyone other than the person you have designated on the form.

CADET PREPARATION: All cadets need to understand that this is a training evolution. Each individual will be asked to do things that are challenging and perhaps different from “the way I have always done it”. To prepare for this evolution, each cadet should:

❖ Pack their own seabag. This will help in knowing what has been brought to the training. Each cadet will be 100% responsible for their own belongings.

❖ Break-in new footwear. Boots will be the footwear for most of the training. However, there will be times dress shoes must be worn; these are more comfortable if they have been broken in.

❖ Educate yourself about naval courtesies and customs.

SEABAG: All items must be marked with the cadet’s last name and last four digits of their SSN#. A seabag inspection will be conducted upon your cadet’s arrival at the training. Items missing from your sea bag at check-in will require a parent or escort to leave the ship and purchase the item locally before your cadet will be secured from Check-In. Once your cadet has completed Check-In, parent/s or escort are free to depart the ship. Cadets are reminded not to bring candy, gum, magazines, tobacco, drugs, knives or weapons, or other contraband items. ANY ITEM NOT LISTED AND BROUGHT TO THE TRAINING WILL BE CONFISCATED!

Cadets using public transportation (plane or train) are allowed to have their cell phones during travel, but cell phones and electronic devices (i.e. IPOD, etc.) will be collected upon arrival and returned at the end of the training. Those traveling by plane or train will be given the opportunity to contact their parents/guardians upon their arrival.

PERSONAL MONIES: The cadets will be able to use personal money to buy a sovenior at the Battleship New Jersey gift shop and also during our trip to Philadelphia. Cadets are authorized to bring up to $50.00 spending money but the cadet will be responsible for their money and should be locked in their locker.

HAIRCUTS: All cadets must conform to the following haircut guidelines:

FEMALE: Hair will be secured in a bun to conform to their cover.

MALE: Will have a navy regulation haircut at check-in.

Hair must be within Regulations in length and color. If cadet does not have a proper haircut they will be turned away at check-in.

CONTACT DURING TRAINING:

➢ Cadets will not be allowed to call home during training unless expressly authorized by the COTC.

➢ During the training, NO cell phones are to be in the possession of cadets. Cell phones will be confiscated.

➢ Cadets are not allowed to place or receive phone calls. In case of family emergencies, parents are to contact their unit CO. The unit CO will then in turn contact me. If there is an emergency regarding a cadet, a call will be placed to the parents and the unit CO.

➢ Visits from parents, relatives, and friends will be prohibited during the training.

➢ Visits from home unit staff not attached to the training are not allowed.

➢ Because of the shortened training period of 6 days, sending US mail to the cadets will not be practical.

GRADUATION: Parents need to arrive at 1:30 (1330) at the white gates at the pier. They will be escorted to the ship by cadets. Graduation will take place promptly at 2:00 (1400) and will be finished at 3:00 (1500). All cadets and officers will be expected to clean up before being dismissed from the pier at 3:30 (1530).

DISMISSAL OF CADETS AND OFFICERS: Cadets will be dismissed from the pier on Sunday, 16 August 2015, at 1530 at the Battleship New Jersey. A parent or escort officer will sign to pick up their cadet/s. Staff MUST stay until everything is cleaned up and you are dismissed.

EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER: My cell phone is 856-912-4659 but should be used ONLY in the case of an emergency while at the training site, or you may call the Battleship’s main number 866-877-6262 ext. 203.

We look forward to seeing you and having a positive training experience.

Best Regards,

LCDR Bart Myles, NSCC
