Key to Coding: Illinois Schools & Districts
Key to Coding Illinois Public School Districts and Schools
Public school districts and schools in Illinois are identified by a unique state-assigned code. This code is a combination of 15 characters (mostly numbers, sometimes letters). The first 11 characters of the code relate to the school district, and the last four characters relate to a particular school operated by the district. Because each unique code consists of 15 characters, districts also have four characters in the school portion of their codes.
