| |Paper for each student |

| |Pen or pencil for each student |

| |Highlighter for each student |

| |One copy, per student, worksheet 1 or power point slide 1. |

| |One copy, per student, power point slide 2. |

|Interest Approach: |Students are going to take five minutes to develop their own career clusters. They will need a piece of |

| |paper and a writing utensil. Have them divide into groups of two or three. |

| | |

| |Careers in Agriculture - since you first entered agriculture education, you have been told that there are |

| |hundreds or maybe even thousands of jobs that you can access with your education in this class. Now, in your|

| |group, think of some of those jobs and write down as many as you can think of in agriculture. You have 2 |

| |minutes. Now that you have this list of jobs, I want you to try to put them into categories. For example, |

| |you might have an Agriculture Mechanics category within which several jobs would fit. The most you can have |

| |is seven categories. You have 2 minutes, and you may begin now. |

| | |

| |Once students have finished, ask them to tell you the categories they have developed. Write these on the |

| |board. Now you will leave this on the board and come back to it for objective 2. |

|Objective 1: |Develop sufficient self-awareness and self-understanding |

| |Move to slide 2 |

| |Print one copy of the attached handout for each student. Students can use the attached worksheet to fill in |

| |the blanks. |

| |Before we can find a job, we need to know exactly what we can do. I have given each of you a handout that |

| |asks some questions about who you are. You have one minute for each question. You may begin. |

|Objective 2: |Student will understand career grouping, clusters, or fields (rather that one job) |

| | |

| |Students will use the list that they developed in the interest approach to compare it to the AG Model career |

| |clusters. This is on the power point handout, of which each student should receive. Students will then |

| |highlight careers on their handout to express their interests in different areas. (move to slide 3) |

| | |

| |Now that we know what your talents are, we are going to look at some of the careers in agriculture. Using |

| |this handout, can you find some of the jobs that you asked me to write on the board? Now, what categories |

| |did we have that are on the handout? Were we pretty close? Good. Now I would like you all to take a |

| |highlighter and highlight the jobs on the handout that you are interested in. Don’t worry about your |

| |qualifications. These are just jobs that you might see yourself doing some day or jobs that you think would |

| |be fun to do. Once you have highlighted everything that you are interested in, please put a smiley face next|

| |to the two that you feel most likely to pursue. |

|Objective 3: |Develop a plan that can lead to the chosen career path. |

| | |

| |Now that the students have pinpointed their career interests, they will research these to find out what they |

| |need to do in order to pursue this career path. Each student will need access to the internet; your |

| |counseling office may also be a resource for books that will have information students can use. |

| | |

| |Now that you have specified the career that you would like, I would like each of you to use (resources that |

| |are available) in order to find out what you need to do to get into the career of your dreams. Make sure you|

| |address all of the categories. This prepared speech must be at least 3 minutes in length. |

| | |

| |Once students are finished, ask them each to show the class what qualifications they need for their chosen |

| |careers. |

|Review/Summary: |Use a hieroglyphics e-moment to summarize the lesson. Have students draw on the white board/chalk board |

| |pictures symbolizing qualifications, then the rest of the class can answer what careers they would be |

| |qualified for. If you would like you can easily set this up as a contest. i.e. a picture of a basketball |

| |could signify being well-rounded. / A picture of a graduation hat could signify education |

|Application--Extended Classroom| |

|Activity: |Have students develop a resume that is targeted towards applying for their dream agriculture job. Some of |

| |this may need to be fictional if they need to obtain more education than a High School diploma. |

|Application--FFA Activity: |Encourage students to participate in the Job Interview CDE. |

|Application--SAE Activity: |This would be an opportunity for students looking for a placement SAE, to have the tools to find a job they |

| |are qualified for. |

|Evaluation: | |

| |Use the prepared speech as the evaluation for this lesson. |
