FINDING OUT 1 / BLENDING A HAND CHECKLISTS

BLENDING A HAND 1 and 2 / FINDING OUT 1 CHECKLISTS

OVERVIEW

The first two levels of Blending A Hand were designed as a supplement to Finding Out 1, but can also be used independently. These checklists are intended as a means to record which worksheets have been used - and when - and to suggest the general order in which they should be used. Where appropriate, the worksheets are listed under the corresponding Finding Out 1 unit. The checklists do not, however, require the use of Finding Out and, of course, the order need not be followed.

WHAT THEY ARE

There are two checklists:

1) 'FO1_BAH checklist'

This lists the worksheets I think can be used closely/easily/simultaneously with each unit of FO1.

It is split into two pages: Single letter sounds (FO1 units 1-9) and double letter sounds (FO1 units 11-15). In the checklists, 'FO unit' obviously refers to the corresponding Finding Out 1 Unit. 'File Index' refers to the physical file index I use in my master file (it was necessary for me to print out all the worksheets). 'BAH Code' refers to the code at the top of every worksheet (it saved me typing it on every single line). 'LFW' refers to the 'Letter Formation Worksheets'. Within each column the order is not law, of course. You can enter the date you use each worksheet in the boxes.

2) 'non-FO1_BAH checklist'

This lists the worksheets that I think can't so easily be used closely/easily/simultaneously with FO1 because they require a more general/higher level of spelling (including the monster's names). These worksheets are based around the vocabulary in the 'Coloring Worksheets', which serve as the student's first picture dictionary.

The 'non-FO1_BAH checklist' is simply a list of those worksheets. You can enter the date you use each worksheet in the boxes.

USAGE

I find the checklists useful for three reasons: they let me record which sheets I've used, they give a quick method to guage the time they're taking, and they show me the general order in which to set them.

I printed out the entire collection of worksheets, but the checklists are probably even more useful if you decide to only print out the ones you are going to use before each lesson. It just makes life a lot easier than being faced with a folder on your desktop containing hundreds of files in sub-folders and trying to decide which one to use...

Locating the files on the BAH disk is easy: Anything on my checklists that contains the number '1' (GS1..,, L1 Word Search, Coloring Worksheet 1, etc.) is in the 'Blending a Hand 1' folder. Ditto '2'.

PRINTING

The files are Excel documents so you may need to adjust the page settings and/or page margins according to your computer.

Hope you find them as useful as I do.

Neil Woodard
