Chris’ Kindergarten Class
(Sample Letters for Room Parents)
WELCOME!
From J-7’s Room Parents
I’m Lynne Russell (Chris’ mom), one of the room parents for this year – the other is Joanna Marsheck (Bailey’s mom). Our role is to take a few things off Mrs. Sanders-Jones’ plate so she can focus on your child and on the classroom. We’ll help to coordinate classroom parties, communicate information to parents, serve as liaisons to the PTA, etc.
Keeping You Informed
Please send your email address to lynnerussell@ or include it on the form below. Email is an easy way for us to communicate with you. This list will not be shared with anyone outside of our class. It’s helpful for us to have your phone numbers, as well.
Upcoming Events
Parent volunteers are needed to help with these two events. Stay tuned for more information.
1) Halloween Party – Friday, October 29th, in the afternoon.
2) Fairmeadow Harvest Fair and Haunted House (and “Just Sign Up”) – Saturday, October 23,
1-4pm. Our class will have a booth at the Fair; parent volunteers will be needed to help.
Other parties this year will likely include a Thanksgiving feast, Winter Holiday celebration, Chinese New Year event, Valentine’s Day party, and an End-of-the-Year party.
How You Can Help
We are asking each family to contribute $20 to a classroom fund to cover the cost of parties through out the year. Please give your check or cash to me as soon as possible – our Halloween party is coming up soon! In the mornings at drop-off time, you can find me outside J-7; in the afternoons after school, you can find me on the playground. Call or email me if you can’t find me!
If you would prefer to volunteer your time, your culinary talents, or your craft-making skills for classroom parties rather than contributing money, please let me know. We have plenty of opportunities for you!
Questions about anything? Contact me at lynnerussell@ or 650/858-0864 or Joanna at Jomarsheck@ or 494-3263. We look forward to getting to know you!

Friday, October 31st
8:30am-12noon
Dress your child in his/her Halloween costume to come to school, as the parade begins promptly at 8:35am. After the
parade, plan to join us for a fun and festive Halloween party. We’ll have several “stations” with activities for the kids, as
well as lots of tasty Halloween snacks (no need to send a snack with your child that day). We’ll also go trick-or-treating
to the other kindergarten classrooms. Younger siblings are welcome!
8:30am-9:15am – parade,
9:15-10am – decorate trick-or-treat bags,
10-11am – recess and trick-or-treating,
11am-12noon – snack and more Halloween activities.
Sign up to bring treats to share and/or to help out with the party and activities. Call Lynne at 858-0864. Thank you!
I’ll bring Halloween treats to share (no items with peanuts, please, due to peanut allergies):
_____ 30 boxed drinks (e.g., apple juice, Capri Sun) _____ 30 white cupcakes (no frosting)
_____ 10 red apples, cream cheese, and mini marshmallows (to make “Monster Mouths”)
I’d like to help out at the party with activities and clean-up:

So much is going on in the classroom and at Fairmeadow that I decided to put together a mini newsletter to keep you up to date. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you’d like to include something in the next newsletter (Call me at 858-0864 or send email to me at lynnerussell@). Thanks! - Lynne Russell (Katie’s mom)
TONIGHT from 5-8pm!! Pizza Fundraiser at Round Table Pizza
University Ave. in downtown Palo Alto
Many thanks to Audrey (Sarah’s mom) for organizing this event. Not only will we get to enjoy yummy pizza and each other’s company, we’ll be raising much-needed funds for Ginny to use for classroom supplies. When you order your pizza, be sure to mention that you’re there with Ginny Russell’s kindergarten class. Hope to see you there!
Webb Ranch Pumpkin Patch Field Trip (Wednesday, October 15th)
This is one of my favorite field trips of the year! The kids will see pumpkins growing on the vine in various stages from big yellow blossoms to decomposing mess! Our incomparable tour guides, Ginny and Cary, will take the kids on a wonderful, educational adventure (think “Miss Frizzle” and “Magic School Bus”). A few reminders – 1) no need to send a snack with your child that day as one will be provided, 2) don’t forget to send a labeled car/booster seat for your child, and 3) be on time (or even a little early) that morning as we will be leaving right away.
New Families Meeting (Wednesday, October 22nd, 8:30am)
Fairmeadow Library
The PTA is hosting a coffee for parents of all families new to Fairmeadow, including parents of kinders. Learn about what the PTA has planned for the year, find out about community resources for those new to Palo Alto, and get acquainted with other new families.
Harvest Festival (Saturday, October 25th)
Don’t miss this fun fall carnival for Fairmeadow families. There will be games, face painting, a spooky haunted house (and a not-so-spooky one for kinders and other young children), and lots more. Watch for details in the upcoming issue of the Firebird.
Halloween Costume Parade and Classroom Party (Friday, October 31st)
The day begins at 8:40am with an all-school Halloween costume parade. It’s fun to see what the kids are wearing, so plan to join the crowd in watching the parade… and don’t forget to bring your camera. After the parade, there will be a party in Room 2. Parents are needed to bring tasty Halloween treats, lead crafts and activities, etc. Watch for a sign-up sheet later this week.
Odds and Ends
Gym Lab (Mondays from 10-10:40am in the MP Room)
The first Gym Lab was held on Monday. According to the kids I talked with it was a huge success! Many thanks to Anthony (Isabel’s dad), Joy (Maria’s mom), and Dena (Alex’s mom) for volunteering to lead the kids in these fun, physical activities.
Third Grade Buddies: Last week, the Room 2 kinders met with the third graders in Ms. Poling’s class. They haven’t chosen buddies yet, but they met each other and read a story together. Joshua and Robin from our class were excited to see their older brothers!
Wednesday Afternoon at the Park: Looking for something to do between 12:05pm when you pick up your kinder and 1:40pm when you pick up your older child? Several moms from our classroom are meeting informally at Mitchell Park on Wednesday afternoons. Bring a lunch and join us!
Mr. Terry, substitute teacher: Many of you (and your kinder!) may have been surprised to see a male teacher in Room 2 last week. That wonderful man is Mr. Terry, who often substitutes for Ginny.
Don’t be Late!: Please be on time to pick up your kinder each day. School ends at 12:05pm. When you’re late, Ginny must use part of her lunch hour to walk your child to the office, where they’ll wait until you pick them up.
