Mayor Proposes Efforts to Bring Nearly 200 Jobs to Columbus

Three Columbus companies plan to expand operations to bring nearly 200 new jobs to the city while retaining 63. Mayor Michael B. Coleman will present legislation to City Council today for tax incentives for Manta Media, Turner Construction Company and ExpressPoint Technology Services.

“I salute Manta Media, Turner Construction and ExpressPoint Technology for bringing new jobs to our community during these tough economic times,” Mayor Coleman said. “Businesses like these are why Columbus is the best city for jobs in the Midwest.”

The companies seeking tax incentives are:

• Headquartered in Columbus, Manta Media, Inc, is an online destination for small businesses to promote their companies and connect with other professionals and expects to create 130 new jobs and retain 63. Today, Manta has 27 million visitors per month, with two thousand small business owners joining every day. Manta’s site is now ranked as a Top 5 Business Information Site. The city recommends a 60 percent, 6-year Job Creation Tax Credit and a 25 percent, five-year Jobs Growth Incentive.

• Turner Construction plans to locate at 262 Hanover Street Downtown and will invest approximately $1,250,000 toward improvements and fixtures to adapt the unused warehouse into new office space. The project will involve the relocation of 36 full-time permanent positions, which will be new to Columbus. The city Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc. is recommends a 50 percent, five-year Downtown Office Incentive.

• Headquartered in Golden Valley, Minn., ExpressPoint Technology Services, Inc. offers computer repair and logistics services, delivering high-service solutions for its customers. Thirty new full-time permanent jobs will be created as a result of the project. Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc. is The city recommends a 25 percent, five-year Jobs Growth Incentive to assist in the development of this project.

“All of these companies are making long term investments in Columbus because we, as a city, have a solid foundation of essential city services with unlimited potential for economic growth in the central Ohio region,” said Councilmember Zach Klein, chair of the Development Committee.
