Florida Standards Assessment

Florida has transitioned from the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test? (FCAT) to the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) to align with new academic standards. The FSA measures student achievement of the Florida Standards, which specify the challenging content Florida students are expected to know and perform.

In the 2015-2016 school year, standard setting will be accomplished, and upon State Board of Education approval, will set the scale score ranges for each of the five achievement levels. The State has released the proposed cut scores pending approval in January 2016. These cut scores identify the achievement level 1-5. Proficiency is defined as scoring at Levels 3, 4, or 5 (calculated based on released theta scores). Beginning in 2014, students were allowed to test above grade level to align with the student's instruction (e.g., 7th grader receiving 8th grade instruction in math would take the Grade 8 FSA math assessment).

Students in grade 10 must achieve an FSA English Language Arts (ELA) scale score in Achievement Level 3 or higher to meet the graduation requirement. The student does have the opportunity to retake the test up to five times prior to graduation. Students in grade 3 must achieve an FSA ELA scale score in Achievement Level 2 or higher, or show good cause, to be eligible for promotion.

End-of-Course Exams

The FSA End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments are designed to measure student achievement of the Florida Standards for specific courses, as outlined in the course descriptions. These assessments serve the purpose of increasing student achievement and improving college and career readiness. The State transitioned to the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) EOC for Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II in 2015.

In the 2015-2016 school year, standard setting will be accomplished and upon State Board of Education approval will set the scale score ranges for each of the five achievement levels.

Students must pass the FSA Algebra I EOC with an Achievement Level 3 or higher to meet the graduation requirement. The student does have the opportunity to retake the test multiple times prior to graduation.
