Word Processing Lab:?In this lab you will learn about a word processing system.? In particular, we will be using Microsoft WORD 2007 (with updates for 2010. To do this lab you must have your Microsoft Office 2007 lab manual by O’Leary.You should now copy the files from the class’s web site to your computer or flash drive. Note the following:MS Word 2007 looks slightly different in different Operating Systems. If your screen doesn’t look exactly like the one displayed in the book, this may be the reason.The tutorial will occasionally tell you alternative ways of executing commands without using the mouse (i.e., by using keystrokes instead). If you are having trouble with carpal tunnel syndrome (your hands and wrists hurt), or you want to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome, it may be a good idea to learn to use these keystroke commands. For these lessons, however, it is sufficient that you know they exist.You would be wise to save your file regularly in case the lab ends before you are finished. I suggest saving your file to your flash drive.Make sure you have downloaded the Lab 1 files from the class Web site.(Optional if you are new to MS Word): Execute the tutorial on pages WD1.1 – WD1.71 of your lab manual for Microsoft WORD. (End of Optional) The Office symbol has been replaced with the file tab; saving, closing, and document properties may be found there:Even if you are familiar with MS Word, read through pages WD1.60 – 1.69.Do pages WD2.4 – WD2.31 of your Microsoft WORD lab manual.? (Stop at ‘Modifying Page Layout’.? Be sure to save the file as Tour Letter2.? Make sure that the copy has your name printed on it.Updates:WD2.10 – Synonym for dreams will not show up; go into Thesaurus and insert from there.Execute the tutorial on pages WD2.31 – WD2.62 (Stop at the point where it says Previewing and Editing Multiple Pages). When you stop on page WD2.62, save your document as a file named ‘Revised Tour Letter2_1.docx’. Updates:WD2.22 – Classic find box (as in the book) may be found under the arrow of the navigation pane as the button Advanced Find:WD2.60 – You may have to change the text fill to black if your words are showing up in white:Execute the tutorial on pages WD3.4 – WD-3.13, WD3.17- WD3.57. (Stop at the point where it says “Adding a Cross-Reference”: on page WD3.57). Save the file as Tour Research2 so you don’t overwrite the original. WD3.28 – Double click then tab to the newly placed tabWD3.38 – Document Map has been moved into Navigation Pane:Then select the headings icon in the navigation pane.WD3.40 – Thumbnails may be viewed by clicking the thumbnail icon in the navigation pane.Do Practice Exercise 2 on page WD2.79-2.80. Make sure your document does not go to extra pages by just a few lines.Do Practice Exercise 5 on page WD3.112. In this exercise you can skip doing parts i through o. Be sure to close all open windows when you are finished for the day.Please save a copy of your work to a flash drive or email your files to yourself.Make sure you remove all lab work from University computers.
