* Gordon Goward launched the late Jim Paterson’s memoir Hey, Four Eyes [Ginninderra Press, 2013] at Hobart Bookshop in late November. This book is a precursor to Jim’s 2001 memoir A King Island Settler’s Tale. From it we learn of Jim’s early years growing up in Sydney in the 1920s and 30s, his education at Hurlstone Agricultural College and East Sydney Technical College, his early working life, army service during World War 11 and the life he and Mae shared before they moved to Tasmania. Copies of the book (RRP $28) are available from Hobart Bookshop or from Mae Paterson at FAW meetings.

* Congratulations to Tony Brennan, Jan Colville, Lorraine Haig and Kate Tongs! The manuscript of The Persistence of Song: Poems by Tony Brennan, Jan Colville, Lorraine Haig & Kate Tongs was commended in the 2012 FAW VIC Community Writing Award and Burringbah Books (a Ralph Wessman imprint) published the book in September. Liz Winfield launched the fine collection of 83 poems at the Republic Bar & Café reading in December.

* Want your book reviewed? Send a copy to Sagacity, PO Box 645, Kings Meadows TAS 7249.
